We report a case of a woman in her 30s who underwent femtosecond LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) in both eyes to correct her simple myopic astigmatism. After the surgery, both eyes developed diffuse lamellar keratitis, and intensive topical steroids were initiated to control the same. Subsequently, central toxic keratopathy (CTK) developed bilaterally.

Purpose: Phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) plays an important role in the management of Reis-Bucklers' corneal dystrophy. The usage of PTK for the treatment of anterior corneal dystrophies is limited by the depth of ablation. This case shows the usage of high ablation depth PTK as one of the management strategies to visually rehabilitate a patient of advanced Reis-Bucklers' corneal dystrophy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze how the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown impacted the types of cataracts seen at a South Indian eye care center.
  • The researchers compared data from cataract surgeries conducted before (April-July 2019) and during the lockdown (April-July 2020) on 1,724 patients, looking at various factors such as lens status and postoperative outcomes.
  • The findings revealed a notable decrease in nuclear sclerosis cataracts and an increase in more severe forms, as well as shifts in surgical techniques, with small-incision surgery decreasing and phacoemulsification increasing during the lockdown.

Orbital abscess generally occurs in older children but it can rarely affect infants and neonates too. We report a case of community acquired methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) neonatal orbital abscess in a 12-day-old term female neonate with no significant past medical history or risk factor for developing the infection. The case highlights the importance of consideration of CA-MRSA as a causative agent of neonatal orbital cellulitis even in a neonate without any obvious predisposing condition.
