This could occur due to dimensional changes or failure in the adaptation of pulp capping materials to the prepared cavity. Evaluation of microleakage is important for assessing the success of newer pulp capping materials.

Effect of Passion Fruit Juice in Removal of Smear Layer in Root Canal of Human Teeth: A Scanning Electron Microscopic Study.

Context: The smear layer produced during the instrumentation of the root canal contains both organic and inorganic components, and it is recommended to be removed as it has a mixture of bacteria and their byproducts. Irrigants like sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), endodontic irrigant, citric acid, etc., possess the ability to remove the smear layer.

Introduction/background: The preventive benefits of pit and fissure sealants rely on their retention and sealing ability. The drawback of the conventional pit and fissure sealant is its poor retention due to the presence of moisture. Among the numerous pit and fissure sealants available, newer hydrophilic sealants are ideal for children.

Anxiety Rating Scale for Speech and Hearing-impaired Children.

Background: It has been observed that children with special healthcare needs exhibit higher dental anxiety levels because of various barriers. In the literature, there is no anxiety assessment scale for speech and hearing-impaired children. A new concept of pictorial representation of common emotions observed during dental treatment was used to design an innovative scale, thereby helping to improve communication and in bringing out positive behavior among the children.

Effectiveness of Video Tutorial Coaching in Improving the Knowledge of School Teachers on Child Abuse and Neglect in Puducherry.

Aim: Child abuse and neglect (CAN) is a major threat to the health and well-being of children throughout the world. Apart from healthcare professionals, teachers also play an important role in recognizing and reporting child abuse as they are in a better position to observe the behavioral changes in children as they spend substantially more time at school. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a video tutorial program in improving the knowledge of school teachers on CAN.

Recurrent Episodes of Oral Pyogenic Granuloma at Different Site in an 8-year-old Girl: An Unusual Presentation.

Unlabelled: Pyogenic granuloma is one of the benign vascular neoplasms seen in the first and second decade of life, with a female predilection. Pyogenic granuloma presents as a small reddish exophytic lesion, gingiva being the commonest site. This report presents a case of recurrent episodes of pyogenic granuloma at a different site at different time intervals in an 8-year-old girl child which was found to be an unusual presentation, and it highlights the importance of early diagnosis and management of the pyogenic granuloma to avoid the discomfort.

Effects of Xylitol and CPP-ACP Chewing Gum on Salivary Properties of Children with Molar Incisor Hypomineralization.

Aim: To compare the efficacy of chewing gum containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) and xylitol on salivary characteristics in 8-10 years old children with molar incisor hypomineralization.

Materials And Methods: A randomized controlled trial using CPP-ACP chewing gums (group I) and xylitol chewing gums (group II) was conducted among 32 children affected with mild molarincisor hypomineralization (MIH). Salivary flow rate, pH and buffering capacity were measured using saliva check kit (GC America).

Effectiveness of Visual Distraction with and without Virtual Reality Glasses in Reducing Dental Anxiety among Children with Hearing and Speech Disability: A Pilot Study.

Aim And Objective: To assess the effectiveness of visual distraction with and without virtual reality glasses in reducing dental anxiety among children with hearing and speech disabilities undergoing dental treatment.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-four children with hearing and speech disabilities aged 6-12 years were selected and were randomly divided into three groups (N = 8). Children in group A received no distraction, group B received visual distraction using virtual reality (VR) glasses and group C received visual distraction without VR glasses during dental treatment.

Age and Reasons for First Dental Visit and Knowledge and Attitude of Parents Toward Dental Procedures for Puducherry Children Aged 0-9 years.

Background: The first dental visit provides the dentist an opportunity to advise parents on prevention of oral diseases and also allows for early detection of caries and arrest of its progression. The first dental visit should occur no later than 12 months of age. However, parents fail to give importance to primary dentition as they feel that they are temporary.

Colour Preference to Emotions in Relation to the Anxiety Level among School Children in Puducherry - A Cross-Sectional Study.

Introduction: Dental setting plays an important role in child's behavior and cooperation to the planned dental treatment. Adding attractive colours to the dental environment and by incorporating colourful equipments can make the child feel good and be at ease. This study tries to convey the relationship between colours and dental anxiety among children.
