Epidemiology of carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli and first report of blaVIM carbapenemases gene in calves from India.

A cross-sectional study on six dairy farms was conducted to ascertain the occurrence of carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli in calves. Two-hundred and seventy-nine isolates of E. coli were recovered from 90 faecal samples from apparently healthy (45) and diarrhoeal (45) calves.

Antimicrobial Activity of Agarwood Oil Against Multiple-Drug-Resistant (MDR) Microbes of Clinical, Food and Environmental Origin.

Agarwood Oil (AO) is described to possess antimicrobial activity besides many other medicinal utilities. This paper discusses the antimicrobial activity of AO on MDR and non-MDR strains of microbes of 69 genera isolated from clinical and non-clinical samples.

Effect of molecular chaperones on the expression of Candida antarctica lipase B in Pichia pastoris.

One of the reasons for limited heterologous protein secretion in Pichia pastoris is the suboptimal folding conditions inside the cell. The Hsp70 and Hsp40 chaperone families in the cytoplasm or the ER regulate the folding and secretion of heterologous proteins. Here, we have studied the effect of chaperones Ydj1p, Ssa1p, Sec63p and Kar2p on the secretory expression of Candida antarctica lipase B (CalB) protein.

Estimation of hydrogen sulphide in the human lymphocytes.

Hydrogen sulphide (H2S), a signaling gasotransmitter and a potent vasorelaxant is endogenously produced by the enzymes cystathionine-beta-synthase (CBS) and cystathionine-gamma-lyase (CSE). CBS is a predominant source of H2S in the central nervous system, while CSE is the major H2S producing enzyme in the brain and other nervous tissues. Though the expression of these enzymes in the blood lymphocytes is known, H2S formation in the lymphocytes has not been reported so far.
