Derangements in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) of burn patients are poorly understood and lacking consistent data. This leads to an absence of consensus regarding pharmacologic management of burn patients, complicating their care. In order to effectively manage burn critical illness, knowledge of pharmacologic parameters and their changes is necessary.

Empirical substituent constants, such as the Hammett parameters, have found important utility in organic and other areas of chemistry. They are useful both in predicting the impact of substitutions on chemical processes and in rationalizing after-the-fact observations on chemical bonding and reactivity. We assess the impact of substitutions on monoiodinated benzene rings and find that the modifications that substituents induce on the electrostatic potentials at the sigma hole on the terminal I center correlate strongly with established trends of common substituents.

Objective: Development of novel therapies for temporal lobe epilepsy is hindered by a lack of models suitable for drug screening. While testing the hypothesis that "inhibiting inhibitory neurons" was sufficient to induce seizures, it was discovered that a mild electrical kindling protocol of VGAT-Cre mice led to spontaneous motor and electrographic seizures. This study characterizes these seizures and investigates the mechanism.
