Article Synopsis
  • A clinical study compared the effectiveness of nasal lignocaine spray versus saline spray in treating postdural puncture headache after spinal anesthesia.* -
  • Patients were assessed for pain relief at multiple time points using a visual analogue scale, with the lignocaine spray group showing significantly better pain relief within the first two hours compared to the saline group.* -
  • The study concluded that lignocaine 10% spray is more effective in alleviating PDPH symptoms without any major side effects.*

Objective: We evaluated whether systemic ondansetron was also useful in the attenuation of propofol injection pain similar to ondansetron pretreatment.

Methods: Eighty patients were enrolled. Patients in group S received ondansetron 4 mg in saline in the right hand followed 30 min later by 5 mL saline in the left hand along with venous occlusion.

Background and objective Lidocaine pretreatment is considered the gold standard for attenuating pain on injection of propofol. Valsalva maneuver (VM) causes baroreceptor reflex arc-induced antinociception by increasing the intrathoracic pressure. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of VM in alleviating the pain on injection of propofol in this randomized comparative study.

Background And Objectives: Laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation lead to a sympathoadrenal response. We compared the efficacy of dexmedetomidine with fentanyl bolus to attenuate this response.

Methods: One hundred patients admitted for routine surgical procedures under general anesthesia were enrolled in this double blind, randomized, controlled study.

Background: Ketamine and dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant to caudal block are used in the pediatric population.

Aims: We aimed to compare the analgesic and safety profile of dexmedetomidine with ketamine for single-shot caudal block.

Settings And Design: This was a randomized controlled study conducted in a tertiary care university hospital.

Objective: 5-HT3 receptor antagonists are known to possess local anesthetic properties and are commonly used for the alleviation of pain following propofol injection. Palonosetron, a newer molecule, has shown contradictory results for this property. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of palonosetron pretreatment in alleviating propofol injection pain with that of lignocaine.

Context: Preoperative anxiety in surgical patients imposes stress and dissatisfaction. It results in altered neuroendocrine response and various perioperative complications.

Aims: This study was conducted to determine the changes in anxiety level and need for information about the anesthetic and the surgical procedures at three different time points before surgery and evaluate the correlating factors.

Generally the oxygram and the capnogram are mirror images of each other. We report a situation where a leak in the sample line produced a typical tails-up capnogram that was not accompanied by a mirror image oxygram. Air entrainment through the breach led to dilution of the gases on their way to the analyzer.

Objective: Prolonging the duration of sensory blockade with bupivacaine following supraclavicular brachial plexus block is desirable for improved postoperative pain management. This study was conducted to assess the effect of intravenous dexmedetomidine on the onset and duration of supraclavicular brachial plexus block using bupivacaine.

Methods: Sixty ASA I and II adult patients undergoing upper limb surgery under supraclavicular brachial plexus block were included in this prospective, randomised, double-blind study.
