PD-L1 is a glycoprotein present on antigen-presenting cells and malignant cells and activates the PD-L1 receptor on cells surfaces, leading to T-cell anergy and death. The objective of this study was to assess PD-L1 tumoral expression in 50 patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma, define its prognostic value, and investigate its association with 2-year overall survival, locoregional recurrence, distant metastasis, and a number of other clinicopathological parameters. In a 24-month prospective observational study, involving 50 oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma patients, PD-L1 tumoral expression was evaluated using semiquantitative immunohistochemistry analysis by an experienced pathologist.

Oral cavity and larynx cancers are generally associated with tobacco consumption, alcohol abuse or both. Mouthwashes are liquid antiseptic solutions that decrease the microbial load in the oral cavity. Alcohol is often used in mouthwashes for its antiseptic functions and as a carrier for some active ingredients, including menthol or thymol, helping them penetrate the plaque.

Watertight repair of the skull base defect is necessary during endonasal skull base surgery to avoid postoperative CSF leak (poCSFl) and consequent intracranial complications. Various techniques have been described for reconstructing sphenoid-sellar defects with varying success rates. We have described the immediate and long-term outcomes following the reconstruction of sphenoid-sellar defects with our technique.

Background: Iatrogenic injury of the parathyroid glands is the most frequent complication after total thyroidectomy.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of near-infrared autofluorescence (NIRAF) in reducing postoperative hypocalcemia following total thyroidectomy.

Methods: PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases were searched.

Article Synopsis
  • More people are getting thyroid cancer, so doctors need to better understand how risky certain thyroid nodules (Bethesda III nodules) are for becoming cancerous.
  • Different methods like special tests and scans are being studied to help figure out these risks more accurately.
  • Using both tests and scans together can help doctors make better choices for their patients, possibly avoiding unnecessary surgeries and personalizing treatment for each person.

Natural language processing (NLP) AI models have gained popularity in research; however, ethical considerations are necessary to avoid potential negative consequences. This paper identifies and explores the key areas of ethical concern for researchers using NLP AI models, such as bias in training data and algorithms, plagiarism, data privacy, accuracy of generated content, prompt and content generation, and training data quality. To mitigate bias, researchers should use diverse training data and regularly evaluate models for potential biases.

Observation plays a key role in the development of surgical skills, as it allows trainees to learn from experts and improve their performance through trial-and-error practice. This process, known as motor learning, involves the creation of new neural pathways that enable precise control of surgical instruments through hand movements. In recent years, there has been a shift towards minimally invasive surgery, which requires surgeons to continually learn new motor skills to control specialized instrumentation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare surgical outcomes for infranotch T4b oral cancers with T4a oral cancers by analyzing data from clinical studies.
  • A total of 11,790 patients were reviewed, and findings indicated overall survival, disease-free survival, and disease-specific survival rates for IN-T4b patients.
  • The meta-analysis concluded there were no significant differences in survival outcomes between IN-T4b and T4a oral cancers, suggesting that IN-T4b could be categorized as T4a.

Background: The management of cT3 laryngeal cancers remains controversial, with studies recommending surgical or non-surgical approaches. Despite the many papers that have been published on the subject, there is a lack of studies showing which treatment has better results in terms of survival.

Objective: To determine the difference in survival outcomes following total laryngectomy (TL), concurrent chemoradiation (CRT) or radiation therapy (RT) alone in T3 laryngeal cancers.

Introduction: This study aimed to compare the children having enlarged adenoids with and without otitis media with effusion (OME) concerning clinical features like mouth breathing, snoring, recurrent episodes of cold, hearing impairment and specific morphology of adenoid. Further, the flora of adenoid tissue and middle ear fluid were also compared.

Methods: One hundred and twenty children having clinical features suggestive of enlarged adenoids with [Group A (n = 60)] or without [Group B (n = 60)] OME were included in this cross-sectional study.
