Following the outbreak of coronavirus in Wuhan, China in 2019, there has been multiple waves of different variants of COVID-19 throughout the world in the continuum of a pandemic. This study aims to compare different clinical and laboratory parameters of hospitalized patients in Omicron-driven 3rd wave vs Delta-driven 2nd wave in India. This was a retrospective cross-sectional observational study that was done in the Department of General Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, Dr S N Medical College, Jodhpur (Rajasthan).

In this paper, we demonstrate the successful implementation of reconfigurable field-programmable gate array technology into a pulse-resolved data acquisition system to achieve a femtosecond temporal resolution in ultrafast pump-probe experiments in real-time at large scale facilities. As proof of concept, electro-optic sampling of terahertz waveforms radiated by a superradiant emitter of a quasi-cw accelerator operating at a 50 kHz repetition rate and probed by an external laser system is performed. Options for up-scaling the developed technique to a MHz range of repetition rates are discussed.

Allergic potential & molecular mechanism of skin sensitization of cinnamaldehyde under environmental UVB exposure.

Fragrance, a key ingredient in cosmetics, often triggers skin allergy causes rashes, itching, dryness, and cracked or scaly skin. Cinnamaldehyde (CA), derived from the bark of the cinnamon tree, used as a fragrance and is a moderate skin sensitizer. CA exhibits strong UVB absorption, its allergic potential and the molecular mechanisms underlying skin sensitization under UVB exposure remain largely unexplored.

Adherence to antiretroviral therapy and its association with quality of life among people with HIV in the United States.

Adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) is critical for people with HIV (PWH) to achieve and maintain virologic suppression and minimize drug resistance. This study aimed to use real-world data to characterize ART adherence and its effect on quality of life (QoL) in PWH. Data were drawn from the Adelphi HIV Disease Specific Programme™, a cross-sectional survey of physicians and PWH in the United States, conducted June-October 2021.

Comorbidity and polypharmacy among people with HIV stratified by age, sex, and race.

With an increase in life expectancy of people with HIV, there is a corresponding rise in comorbidities and consequent increases in comedications. This study compared comorbidity and polypharmacy among people with HIV and people without HIV stratified by age, sex, and race. This retrospective study utilised administrative claims data to identify adult people with HIV with antiretroviral therapy (ART) claims and HIV diagnosis codes from 01 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

Approximately one-quarter of people with HIV (PWH) in the U.S. receive coverage through the Medicare program; however, no prior real-world study has examined antiretroviral therapy (ART) gaps and adherence and associated factors in this population.

Toxic potential assessment of hair dye developer 2,4,5,6-tetraaminopyrimidine sulfate exposed under ambient UVB radiation.

Synthetic cosmetics, particularly hair dyes, are becoming increasingly popular among people of all ages and genders. 2,4,5,6-tetraaminopyrimidine sulfate (TAPS) is a key component of oxidative hair dyes and is used as a developer in several hair dyes. TAPS has previously been shown to absorb UVB strongly and degrade in a time-dependent manner, causing phototoxicity in human skin cells.

Antiretroviral therapy among people with HIV with comorbidities in the United States: a retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: To describe patterns of antiretroviral medications among people with HIV (PWH) who also have common comorbid conditions in a United States cohort.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study used Optum Research Database claims data from 01/01/2017 through 01/31/2019 to identify adult PWH (≥18 years) based on pharmacy claims for ART during 2018. The index date was defined as the first date of an ART claim.

Hospitalization Among Patients Treated With Molnupiravir: A Retrospective Study of Administrative Data.

Purpose: Molnupiravir is an oral antiviral agent authorized for emergency use to treat mild to moderate cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adults at high risk for progression to severe clinical outcomes. This study aimed to describe patient characteristics and health outcomes in a cohort of adult patients treated with molnupiravir in an outpatient setting in the United States.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of adults identified in the HealthVerity database with a pharmacy claim for molnupiravir between December 24, 2021, and April 14, 2022.

Assessment of Thyroid Dysfunction During Different Trimester of Pregnancy.

Background: Thyroid dysfunction is frequently seen in pregnant women and is associated with complications like miscarriage, gestational hypertension, placental abruption, pre mature delivery and fetal growth retardation and even causes impaired neuropsychological development of fetus. This study is carried out to assess the prevalence of thyroid disorder during different trimester of pregnancy.

Methods: Serum samples were collected from 124 pregnant women attending Patan Academy of Health Science for ante natal visit.

Methods: Adult PLWH (≥18 years) treated with NNRTI or PI (non-switch cohorts) and those switching to INSTI (switch cohorts) between January 1, 2014 and August 31, 2019 were identified using IQVIA's Ambulatory Electronic Medical Records linked to a prescription drug claims database.

Background: Treatment guidelines recommend integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI)-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens for treatment naïve people living with HIV (PLWH) in the United States (US). This retrospective database study compared weight changes following initiation of INSTI-, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI)-, or protease inhibitor (PI)-based ART in treatment-naïve PLWH.

Methods: Adult (≥18 years) PLWH initiated on INSTI, NNRTI, or PI plus ≥2 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI) between 1 January 2014 to 31 August 2019 were identified in IQVIA's Ambulatory Electronic Medical Records (AEMR) linked to prescription drug claims (LRx).

Ultrafast Tunable Terahertz-to-Visible Light Conversion through Thermal Radiation from Graphene Metamaterials.

Several technologies, including photodetection, imaging, and data communication, could greatly benefit from the availability of fast and controllable conversion of terahertz (THz) light to visible light. Here, we demonstrate that the exceptional properties and dynamics of electronic heat in graphene allow for a THz-to-visible conversion, which is switchable at a sub-nanosecond time scale. We show a tunable on/off ratio of more than 30 for the emitted visible light, achieved through electrical gating using a gate voltage on the order of 1 V.

Body mass index and quality of life in people living with HIV.

With advances in the treatment of HIV, people living with HIV (PLWH) are now expected to have a near-normal life expectancy, but challenges remain in the form of substantially poorer health-related quality of life (HRQoL) than the general population. Being overweight or obese may pose an additional burden in PLWH, but few studies have evaluated the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and HRQoL in PLWH. This study aimed to evaluate and describe the association between HRQoL and BMI among PLWH in the US.

Molecular Beacon Probe (MBP)-Based Real-Time PCR.

In the advancement of molecular biology techniques, several probe-based techniques, like molecular beacon probe (MBP) assay, TaqMan probe, and minor groove binder (MGB) probe assay, have been reported to identify specific sequences through real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). All probe-based methods are more sensitive than the conventional PCR for the detection and quantification of target genes. MBP is a hydrolysis probe that emits fluorescence when getting the specific sequences on the gene.

Influence of Proline Chirality on Neighbouring Azaproline Residue Stereodynamic Nitrogen Preorganization.

We report herein the first systematic crystal structural investigation of azaproline incorporated in homo- and heterochiral diprolyl peptides. The X-ray crystallography data of peptides 1-5 illustrates that stereodynamic nitrogen in azaproline adopted the stereochemistry of neighbouring proline residue without depending on its position in the peptide sequence. Natural bond orbital analysis of crystal structures indicates O -C' of peptides 4 and 5 participating in n→π* interaction with stabilization energy about 1.

Transition metal-free reductive coupling of allylic sulfonylhydrazones with aryl boronic acids for C(sp)-C(sp) bond formation.

The reductive coupling between allylic sulfonylhydrazones and aryl boronic acids gives 1,3-diarylpropene systems with good to excellent yields. Simple reaction conditions, high yields, and good functional group tolerance are the salient features of this reaction which takes place without using any transition-metal catalysts and an inert atmosphere. The substituents on aryl boronic acid or allylic sulfonylhydrazone play a role in the isomerization of the double bond.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) have been widely used in industry, cosmetics, drugs, bioimaging, and drug delivery. ZnO NPs have been found to interact and interfere with cellular physiology via macrophages, thereby resulting in macrophage polarization. The functional reprogramming of the cells is synchronized through cellular metabolic adaptations.

Objective: To describe the burden of comorbid conditions and comedications among people living with HIV (PLWH) vs. people living without HIV (PLWoH).

Methods: This was a case-control study conducted among insured patients using administrative claims data.

Spectrum of Pancytopenia in Adults Attending a Clinical Hematology Department: A Four-Year Experience From a Tertiary Care Center of Western India.

Background Pancytopenia is a common hematological condition encountered in clinical practice. Because there is a wide variation in causes of pancytopenia even in different populations of the same geographical region, identifying the pattern of underlying etiologies is crucial for proper management. This study was conducted to evaluate the clinico-hematological profile and different etiologies of pancytopenia among adults presenting to a clinical hematology department at a tertiary care hospital of Western India.

N-glycosylation, a leading role in viral infection and immunity development.

N-linked protein glycosylation is an essential co-and posttranslational protein modification that occurs in all three domains of life; the assembly of N-glycans follows a complex sequence of events spanning the (Endoplasmic Reticulum) ER and the Golgi apparatus. It has a significant impact on both physicochemical properties and biological functions. It plays a significant role in protein folding and quality control, glycoprotein interaction, signal transduction, viral attachment, and immune response to infection.

Subcellular patterns of SPE-6 localization reveal unexpected complexities in Caenorhabditis elegans sperm activation and sperm function.

To acquire and maintain directed cell motility, Caenorhabditis elegans sperm must undergo extensive, regulated cellular remodeling, in the absence of new transcription or translation. To regulate sperm function, nematode sperm employ large numbers of protein kinases and phosphatases, including SPE-6, a member of C. elegans' highly expanded casein kinase 1 superfamily.

Observations on presumptive lumpy skin disease in native cattle and Asian water buffaloes around the tiger reserves of the central Indian highlands.

Case History: Between August and October 2020, following the monsoon, signs of lumpy skin disease (LSD) were recorded and described in 154 oxen, 34 cows, 13 calves () and two Asian water buffalo () cows belonging to smallholder farmers in 32 villages located around the Kanha and Bandhavgarh tiger reserves in the state of Madhya Pradesh, central India. Affected animals were subjected to a full clinical examination and detailed findings were recorded in a clinical register. A semi-structured questionnaire was attached to the existing clinical register format to gather information on the clinical disease history and animal husbandry practices relevant to the spread of LSD virus.
