Background & Aims: For children and adolescents undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), adequate protein and energy intake is essential to mitigate malnutrition risk. However, little is known about optimal requirements, including adequate dietary protein intake in this population. We conducted an international benchmarking survey and a scoping review to explore current practices in determining protein requirements (PR) and examine existing evidence for PR and dietary protein intake in pediatric HSCT.

Dengue is a global epidemic causing over 100 million cases annually. The clinical symptoms range from mild fever to severe hemorrhage and shock, including some fatalities. The current paradigm is that these severe dengue cases occur mostly during secondary infections due to antibody-dependent enhancement after infection with a different dengue virus serotype.

Development of vaccines and therapeutics that are broadly effective against known and emergent coronaviruses is an urgent priority. Current strategies for developing pan-coronavirus countermeasures have largely focused on the receptor binding domain () and S2 regions of the coronavirus Spike protein; it has been unclear whether the N-terminal domain () is a viable target for universal vaccines and broadly neutralizing antibodies (). Additionally, many RBD-targeting Abs have proven susceptible to viral escape.

A detailed understanding of the molecular features of the neutralizing epitopes developed by viral escape mutants is important for predicting and developing vaccines or therapeutic antibodies against continuously emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants. Here, we report three human monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) generated from COVID-19 recovered individuals during first wave of pandemic in India. These mAbs had publicly shared near germline gene usage and potently neutralized Alpha and Delta, but poorly neutralized Beta and completely failed to neutralize Omicron BA.

The present work reports the synthesis of a stable aqueous magnetic fluid (AMF) by dispersing double-surfactant-coated FeO magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) in water using a facile ambient scalable wet chemical route. MNPs do not disperse well in water, resulting in low stability. This was improved by dispersing double-surfactant (oleic acid and sodium oleate)-coated MNPs in water, where cross-linking between the surfactants improves the stability of the AMFs.

Dengue is an important public health problem worldwide, with India contributing nearly a third of global dengue disease burden. The measurement of neutralizing antibody responses is critical for understanding dengue pathophysiology, vaccine development and evaluation. Historically, dengue virus neutralization titers were measured using plaque reduction neutralization tests (PRNTs), which were later adapted to focus reduction neutralization tests (FRNTs).

Plasmablasts represent a specialized class of antibody-secreting effector B cells that transiently appear in blood circulation following infection or vaccination. The expansion of these cells generally tends to be massive in patients with systemic infections such as dengue or Ebola that cause hemorrhagic fever. To gain a detailed understanding of human plasmablast responses beyond antibody expression, here, we performed immunophenotyping and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis of the plasmablasts from dengue febrile children in India.

Objective: This study aimed to prospectively examine cardiac structure and function in the kainic acid-induced post-status epilepticus (post-KA SE) model of chronic acquired temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), specifically to examine for changes between the pre-epileptic, early epileptogenesis and the chronic epilepsy stages. We also aimed to examine whether any changes related to the seizure frequency in individual animals.

Methods: Four hours of SE was induced in 9 male Wistar rats at 10 weeks of age, with 8 saline treated matched control rats.

Previous studies have suggested that phosphorylation of translation elongation factor 1A (eEF1A) can alter its function, and large-scale phospho-proteomic analyses in Saccharomyces cerevisiae have identified 14 eEF1A residues phosphorylated under various conditions. Here, a series of eEF1A mutations at these proposed sites were created and the effects on eEF1A activity were analyzed. The eEF1A-S53D and eEF1A-T430D phosphomimetic mutant strains were inviable, while corresponding alanine mutants survived but displayed defects in growth and protein synthesis.

Microwave spin resonance behavior of the FeO surface decorated ZnO nanocomposites (FZNC) has been investigated by ferromagnetic resonance (FMR). Modified hydrothermal method has been adopted to fabricate FZNC samples with FeO nanoparticles chains were used as seeds in the uniform magnetic field to decorate them on the surface of the ZnO nanoparticles in a unique configuration. Spin dynamics investigation confirms the transition of ZnO from diamagnetic to ferromagnetic as the sharp FMR spectra converts to the broad spectra with FeO nanoparticles incorporation.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infection causes acute febrile illness in humans, and some of these individuals develop a debilitating chronic arthritis that can persist for months to years for reasons that remain poorly understood. In this study from India, we characterized antibody response patterns in febrile chikungunya patients and further assessed the association of these initial febrile-phase antibody response patterns with protection versus progression to developing chronic arthritis. We found 5 distinct patterns of the antibody responses in the febrile phase: no CHIKV binding or neutralizing (NT) antibodies but PCR positive, IgM alone with no NT activity, IgM alone with NT activity, IgM and IgG without NT activity, and IgM and IgG with NT activity.

Epidemiological data and gene association studies suggest a genetic predisposition to developing epilepsy after an acquired brain insult, such as traumatic brain injury. An improved understanding of genetic determinants of vulnerability is imperative for early disease diagnosis and prognosis prediction, with flow-on benefits for the development of targeted antiepileptogenic treatments as well as optimal clinical trial design. In the laboratory, one approach to investigate why some individuals are more vulnerable to acquired epilepsy than others is to examine unique rodent models exhibiting either vulnerability or resistance to epileptogenesis.
