Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find the incidence of refractive surprise in patients of cataract with primary pterygium and compare it with patients of cataract without pterygium after phacoemulsification surgery.
Methods: The present observational study included 30 patients who had cataract with pterygium and 30 patients of cataract without pterygium. A detailed ophthalmic examination was done in all the cases.
Synaptic plasticity requires transcription and translation to establish long-term changes that form the basis for long term memory. Diverse stimuli, such as synaptic activity and growth factors, trigger synthesis of mRNA to regulate changes at the synapse. The palette of possible mRNAs is vast, and a key question is how the cell selects which mRNAs to synthesize.

We report a (13)C NMR spectroscopic study that directly demonstrates that alpha-relaxation in bulk glycerol involves an isotropic rotational jump of the constituent molecules. The activation energy of this motion is approximately 78 kJ mol(-1) in the bulk, which abruptly changes to a low value of approximately 27.

Many signals converge to regulate dendritic protein synthesis, including synaptic and cellular activity, and growth factors.
