Radial nerve compression at the arcade of Frohse is a rare but significant condition that typically presents with pain primarily after exertion and at night on the dorsal side of the forearm, more distally than tennis elbow pain, and weakness of the wrist extensors and the long fingers and thumb extensors. Traditional treatment often involves open surgery, resulting in significant scarring. This study introduces a novel percutaneous radial nerve release technique under complete ultrasound guidance and highlights its efficacy and safety.

Introduction: Mediolateral shortening is a risk in treatment of clavicle shaft fracture, and can lead to scapular dyskinesis and shoulder dysfunction. Many studies advocated surgical treatment if shortening exceeds 15mm.

Hypothesis: Clavicle shaft shortening of less than 15mm has negative impact on shoulder function at more than 1 year's follow-up.

Background: Among various options suggested to prevent hip instability after total hip replacement, the MDM-tritanium (modular dual mobility) cup features a cobalt-chrome liner (CoCr) positioned in a titanium acetabular shell and matched with a mobile insert in highly cross-linked annealed X3 polyethylene. The purpose of this study aimed to confirm whether there was no significant release of ions (Co and Cr) or higher occurrence of dislocation or even cases of aseptic loosening of the cementless shell with the use of MDM-tritanium cups at minimum of 5-year follow-up.

Methods: The clinical study was carried out on a homogeneous consecutive and nonselective series with 102 MDM cups (98 patients) implanted in 2 centers.

Background: Wild-type transthyretin-related amyloidosis (ATTRwt) and degenerative aortic stenosis (AS) are both age-related. Diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis (CA) among patients with AS may be difficult due to overlapping morphological and functional criteria. The aim of this study was to describe an echocardiographic longitudinal strain (LS) pattern among patients with AS with and without ATTRwt.

Cardiac involvement in systemic light chain (AL) amyloidosis carries a poor prognosis mainly through involvement of the left ventricular (LV) myocardium. Despite its limitations, two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography (2D-TTE) remains the main tool used for the assessment of LV systolic function in AL patients. We hypothesize that 3D-TTE coupled with speckle tracking imaging allows earlier detection of LV systolic dysfunction than 2D-TTE in AL amyloidosis.

Aims: The purpose of the study was to describe the pattern of Tc-labeled phosphate agents myocardial uptake by scintigraphy and explore its impact on left ventricular (LV) functions in transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (TTR-CA).

Methods: Fifty patients with TTR-CA underwent Tc- hydroxymethylene-diphosphonate (Tc-HMDP) scintigraphy and echocardiography with measure of LV thickness, longitudinal strain (LS), systolic and diastolic functions. Cardiac retention by scintigraphy was assessed by visual scoring and the heart/whole body (H/WB) ratio was calculated by dividing counts in the heart by counts in late whole-body images.

Background: Left heart valve thickening (LVT) was described in patients with light-chain amyloidosis (AL). This phenomenon reflects likely infiltration of the valve by amyloid proteins. However, the prevalence of LVT and its prognostic value have not been investigated in patients with AL.

Based on the German original questionnaire of the "Hamburger modules for measuring generic aspects of psycho-social health in the therapeutic practice" (HEALTH-49) a Turkish speaking version (T-HEALTH-49) was cross-cultural sensitively developed. The psychometric properties have been analysed by means of a clinical sample of Turkish speaking patients (N=311). The questionnaire proves to be practical, the dimensional structure and the relatively independence of the modules have been confirmed by factor analysis.

[The care of people with a migration background in psychosomatic rehabilitation].

Bundesgesundheitsblatt Gesundheitsforschung Gesundheitsschutz

April 2011

It was evaluated in an inpatient rehabilitation setting whether patients with mental or psychosomatic disorders people with a migration background are treated less frequently, profit less from the treatment, and have a higher risk for a negative outcome. On the basis of a prospective sample (n=25,066), the healthcare utilization of inpatient rehabilitation institutions, the level of mental stress, the quality of treatment, and the influence of risk factors were reviewed. Patients with a migration background show a lower level of health care utilization and a higher level of overall mental stress.

Small diameter aortic valve bioprostheses are associated with resting ventriculo-aortic pressure gradients of 10 to 35 mmHg. In order to avoid this factor favouring degradation of left ventricular function and early deterioration of the bioprosthesis, we enlarged the aortic ring when the diameter was less than 23 mm in patients considered unsuitable for long-term anticoagulation. The surgical technique involved incising the annulus from the postero-lateral commissure to the anterior mitral leaflet and implanting a Dacron patch lined with pericardium.
