Introduction: Kidney transplantation from a living donor is the treatment of choice for end- stage kidney disease. Psychological implications of living kidney donation are of great importance, both during preliminary psychiatric assessment and post-donation follow-up. The identification of risk factors worsening the psychological well-being of living kidney donors (LKDs), before and after donation, remains challenging in terms of research.

The functional relevance of N/OFQ action in the mammalian brain remains unclear due to a lack of high-resolution approaches to detect this neuropeptide with appropriate spatial and temporal resolution. Here we develop and characterize NOPLight, a genetically encoded sensor that sensitively reports changes in endogenous N/OFQ release.

Effect of islet alone or islets after kidney transplantation on quality of life in type 1 diabetes: A systematic review.

Background: Pancreatic islet transplantation for type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is efficacious in supressing severe hypoglycaemic episodes (SHE) and restoring glycaemic regulation, which are both pivotal in increasing health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Therefore, a systematic assessment of reports detailing HRQoL outcomes is warranted to better understand the benefits of islet transplantation. To this end, we performed a systematic review of the literature to assess the impact of islet transplantation on HRQoL in individuals with T1DM, whether as a standalone procedure (ITA) or following renal transplantation (IAK).

Examining readmission factors in psychiatric emergency care for individuals with personality disorders: A 6-year retrospective study.

People with personality disorders (PDs) are often admitted to psychiatric emergency services due to the frequent repetition of acute crises. This study drew on the ICD diagnostic records of 2,634 individuals with PDs who were admitted to a specialized inpatient psychiatric crisis unit over a 6-year period. Multiple logistic regressions and survival regressions were performed to examine whether PD categories, gender, and other individual, interpersonal, and precipitating factors were associated with readmission and time-to-readmission.

Metformin acts in the gut and induces gut-liver crosstalk.

Metformin is the most prescribed drug for DM2, but its site and mechanism of action are still not well established. Here, we investigated the effects of metformin on basolateral intestinal glucose uptake (BIGU), and its consequences on hepatic glucose production (HGP). In diabetic patients and mice, the primary site of metformin action was the gut, increasing BIGU, evaluated through PET-CT.

Acute exercise reduces feeding by activating IL-6/Tubby axis in the mouse hypothalamus.

Acute exercise contributes to decreased feeding through leptin and interleukin/Janus kinase 2/signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (IL-6/JAK2/STAT3) signaling. Considering the pleiotropic use of substrates by JAK2 and that JAK2 can phosphorylate the Tubby protein (TUB) in CHO-IR cells, we speculated that acute exercise can activate the IL-6/JAK2/TUB pathway to decrease food intake. We investigated whether acute exercise induced tyrosine phosphorylation and the association of TUB and JAK2 in the hypothalamus and if IL-6 is involved in this response, whether acute exercise increases the IL-6/TUB axis to regulate feeding, and if leptin has an additive effect over this mechanism.

This article presents basic notions of "Good Psychiatric Management" (GPM) for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). There have been several evidence-based psychotherapeutic treatments for BPD for several decades. Nevertheless, high requirements and motivation required sometimes have a discouraging effect for trainees.
