This work describes the comparison of the catalytic performances of α-MnO nanorods synthesized by a facile hydrothermal approach at varying temperatures (140-200 °C). The structure and morphology of these nanorods were analyzed by XRD, N-physisorption, NH-TPD, Raman, SEM, HRTEM, and XPS. The prepared α-MnO nanorods also performed exceptionally well in the catalytic oxidation of cyclohexanone to dicarboxylic acids under mild reaction conditions.

Nitrogen-doped/undoped thermally reduced graphene oxide (N-rGO) decorated with CoMn2O4 (CMO) nanoparticles were synthesized using a simple one-step hydrothermal method. A nickel-doped cobalt oxide spinel structure is a promising non-precious metal electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution and oxygen reduction in rechargeable metal-air batteries and water electrolyzers operating with alkaline electrolytes. A case of Wegener granulomatosis as a cause for fever of unknown origin (FUO) and secondary involvement of endocardium in association with mitral valve prosthesis is presented. The role of temperature and time of reaction in the formation of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been studied in two systems of compounds, manganese oxybis(benzoate) and manganese trimellitates, and the results compared and contrasted with other similar studies in the literature. The investigation reveals the formation of six different phases in oxybis(benzoate) and three phases in trimellitate systems. The low-temperature phases in both systems of compounds possess Mn 4 cluster units linked by the carboxylate ligands, while the high-temperature phase, irrespective of the duration of the reaction, has a three-dimensional structure with -Mn-O-Mn- linkages with brucite-related layers pillared by oxybis(benzoate) and Kagome-related layers pillared by trimellitate ligands.

Attachment to host cells by enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) is associated with the formation of a highly organized cytoskeletal structure containing filamentous actin, termed an attaching and effacing (AE) lesion. Intimin, an outer membrane protein of EHEC, is required for the formation of AE lesions, as is Tir, a bacterial protein that is translocated into the host cell to function as a receptor for intimin. We established a yeast two-hybrid assay for intimin-Tir interaction and, after random mutagenesis, isolated 24 point mutants in intimin, which disrupted Tir recognition in this system.
