Background: Railway disasters cause huge loss of life and resources. A triple train collision occurred at 7 PM on 2nd June 2023 at Bahanaga, Balasore, Odisha. It was the third deadliest train accident in India with 288 deaths and more than 900 injured.

Radial artery duplication: Unusual point-of-care-ultrasonography finding during arterial cannulation.

The radial artery is the most common choice for arterial cannulation, coronary interventions, and various interventional radiological procedures. Here, we describe a case of unilateral duplication of the radial artery detected during radial artery cannulation using point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS). The duplication of the radial artery in the forearm can hinder trans-radial access secondary to variations in the diameter.

Undescended cecum with accessory right colic artery: a rare case report.

Midgut malrotation and incomplete rotation are common causes of neonatal intestinal obstruction. At end of 10 week of intrauterine life, cecum will be placed in subhepatic region temporarily and descends to right lower quadrant by eleventh week. Arrest of cecum in subhepatic region or undescended cecum is a rare congenital anomaly of mid gut.

Sternalis Muscle: An Unexpected Finding during Mastectomy.

Sternalis muscle also called rectus sternalis, rectus thoracis, or episternalis is an anomalous muscle of the anterior chest wall with unknown anatomical function. It is regularly observed in lower animal but infrequently in humans. Presence of this muscle can create confusion with tumours of the anterior chest wall during routine mammography.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus: An unusual association with Down's syndrome.

Down's syndrome (DS) is known to be associated with autoimmune disease including type 1 diabetes. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports of DS with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the literature. We hereby report two cases of DS with type 2 diabetes.

Carotid intima media thickness in type 2 diabetes mellitus with ischemic stroke.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is associated with high cardiovascular risk. Carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) is used commonly as a noninvasive test for the assessment of degree of atherosclerosis. The objective of this study was to find out the cut-off point for CIMT for ischemic stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and to correlate CIMT with various parameters like smoking, hypertension, lipid profile and duration of T2DM.

Clinical analysis of hypertension in children: an urban Indian study.

Hypertension in children, although an uncommon entity, is associated with end-organ damage. We tried to study the clinical profile of hypertension in children presented to our hospital. The medical records from January 1990 to December 2010 of all children aged 18 years and younger with hypertension were studied.

Reversible mitral and aortic regurgitation due to pioglitazone.

Objective: To report the occurrence of pioglitazone-induced reversible valvular regurgitant lesions.

Methods: Clinical, laboratory, and imaging data are reported on a patient with known type 2 diabetes mellitus, who was prescribed pioglitazone to achieve better glycemic control.

Results: We present a case report of a 50-year-old woman, in whom diabetes had been diagnosed 5 years previously, who developed severe mitral and aortic regurgitation during 5 months of treatment with pioglitazone along with clinical and laboratory indications of fluid retention.

Pheochromocytoma with renal artery stenosis: A case-based review of literature.

Pheochromocytomas have been described to be associated with rare vascular abnormalities, most common of them being renal artery stenosis. A 45-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with complaints of headache, sweating, anxiety, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and severe hypertension. Hypertension was confirmed to result from both excess catecholamine production and hyperreninemia of left kidney.

Renin-angiotensin system activity in vitamin D deficient, obese individuals with hypertension: An urban Indian study.

Background: Elevated renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) activity is an important mechanism in the development of hypertension. Both obesity and 25-hydroxy vitamin D [25(OH)D] deficiency have been associated with hypertension and augmented renin-angiotensin system (RAS) activity. We tried to test the hypothesis that vitamin D deficiency and obesity are associated with increased RAS activity in Indian patients with hypertension.

Effect of vitamin D supplementation in type 2 diabetes patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.

Aim: Diabetes and vitamin D deficiency are widely prevalent in India. Studies have proven correlation between low vitamin D levels and pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and low vitamin D levels and insulin resistance. We evaluated the effects of vitamin D supplementation on type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB).
