Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), one of the major environmental pollutants, produced from incomplete combustion of materials like coal, oil, gas, wood, and charbroiled meat, that contaminate the air, soil, and water, necessitating urgent remediation. Understanding the metabolic pathways for PAHs degradation is crucial to preventing environmental damage and health issues. Biological methods are gaining increasing interest due to their cost-effectiveness and environmental friendliness.

Cancer has arisen from both genetic mutations and epigenetic changes, making epigenetics a crucial area of research for innovative cancer prevention and treatment strategies. This dual perspective has propelled epigenetics into the forefront of cancer research. This review highlights the important roles of DNA methylation, histone modifications and non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), particularly microRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs, which are key regulators of cancer-related gene expression.

Oxidative stress plays a vital role in the initiation and progression of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). Increased cardiac dysfunction and apoptosis in DCM are independent factors associated with hypertension or coronary artery disease. Fucoidan, a class of sulfated polysaccharides, is widely used as food supplements and reported to have various pharmacological properties.

Cadmium (Cd) remediation in is achieved through the function of two vital genes, and , that code for P-type ATPase (CadA) and transcription regulatory protein (CadR), respectively. Although numerous studies are available on these metal-sensing and regulatory proteins, the promoter of these genes, metal sensing and binding ability, are poorly understood. The present work is aimed at the characterization of the CadR protein, identification of the P promoter and protein-promoter-metal binding affinity using bioinformatics and to validate the results by cloning the P promoter in DH5α.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to create a better model for inducing dietary hyperoxaluria and nephrocalcinosis in rats, as current methods have significant limitations and complications.
  • It involves testing male albino Wistar rats divided into groups receiving different diets, including a control group, ethylene glycol, potassium oxalate, and spinach extract with varying oxalate levels for 28 days.
  • Results showed that rats fed spinach extract developed hyperoxaluria with less kidney damage compared to those given ethylene glycol or potassium oxalate, indicating it is a more effective and safer method for inducing the condition.
