Design of intelligent diabetes mellitus detection system using hybrid feature selection based XGBoost classifier.

In this work, a non-invasive diabetes mellitus detection system is proposed based on the wristband photoplethysmography (PPG) signal and basic physiological parameters (PhyP) to enable easy detection of diabetes mellitus (DM). A dataset of 217 participants with diabetes, prediabetes and normal conditions is used to develop the system. The Mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) extracted from 5s PPG signal segments and the PhyP are used as input for the machine learning algorithms.

Delayed gastric emptying is one of the most common complications of pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). It almost always results in delayed oral intake, prolonged hospital stays, and a delay in initiation of vital adjuvant treatment. A few earlier studies suggested that delayed gastric emptying (DGE) rates were better with the Roux-en Y reconstruction, but Indian literature regarding this is lacking.

The Parapharyngeal Space (PPS) tumors are rare tumors accounting for 0.5% of the tumors in head and neck region. A retrospective study conducted at Department of Surgical oncology, Vydehi institute of Medical Sciences & Research center, Bengaluru, between 2010 and 2015 identified nine cases treated for PPS tumors.

Background: Heart rate variability (HRV) reflects autonomic nervous system modulation of cardiac activity. There is a relationship between degrees of physical activity, HRV changes and the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Aim: To study the effect of a supervised integrated exercise programme on HRV in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM).

Objective: To evaluate the usefulness of fine needle aspiration (FNA) study of lymph nodes in HIV-positive patients.

Study Design: The study was conducted at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India. Samples from lymph nodes of 48 HIV-positive patients were taken and air dried, and wet smears were made.

Myocarditis in enteric fever.

1. Myocarditis in the course of enteric fever is a common occurrence. In a series of 100 bacteriologically or serologically proved enteric fever, we found 7 cases with clinical evidence of myocarditis and 46 cases with ECG evidence of myocarditis.
