Introduction: Mosquitoes represent a way of spreading infectious diseases, as vectors of pathogens. Many types of ultrasonic devices have recently been promoted as effective and suitable alternatives to the use of biocides known as toxic to humans and environment.

Materials And Methods: Four ultrasonic mosquito repellers have been analysed and tested on females of two species, Culex pipiens and Aedes albopictus, in laboratory conditions.

Our aim was to evaluate the independent and associated effects of nandrolone decanoate (DECA) and resistance exercise (REx) on central and peripheral hormones and neuropeptides related to energy balance in male rats. The experimental protocol was performed for eight weeks and comprised four groups: control (C) - exposed to vehicle 3x/wk; trained (T) - REx 5x/wk and vehicle 3x/wk; decanoate (D) - exposed to DECA (5 mg/kg) 3x/wk, and REx with DECA (TD) - submitted to REx 5x/wk and DECA (5 mg/kg) 3x/wk. A perspective on early detection systems models for COVID-19 spreading.

The proposed framework is model-free and applies Early Warning Detection Systems (EWDS) techniques to detect changes in the territorial spread of infections in the very early stages of onset.

Two variants of the enzyme family pyruvate:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR), derived from the anaerobic sulfate-reducing bacterium Desulfovibrio africanus and the extremophilic crenarchaeon Sulfolobus acidocaldarius, respectively, were evaluated for their capacity to fixate CO in vitro. PFOR reversibly catalyzes the conversion of acetyl-CoA and CO to pyruvate using ferredoxin as redox partner. The oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate is thermodynamically strongly favored, and most previous studies only considered the oxidative direction of the enzyme.

Serial Uterine Artery Embolization for the Treatment of Placenta Percreta in the First Trimester: A Case Report.

Purpose: Imiquimod is a toll-like receptor agonist with proven antitumor activity as a topical treatment for skin cancer. TMX-101 (Vesimune) is a novel liquid formulation of imiquimod optimized for intravesical delivery. The agent demonstrated safety as an intravesical treatment for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer in a phase 1 clinical trial.

Introducion: sarcopenia is defined as a syndrome characterized by progressive and generalized loss of muscle mass and strength. The main cause of sarcopenia is the alteration of protein metabolism, in which the proteolytic processes are not accompanied by an appropriate protein synthesis and muscle cells lose progressively the sensitivity to the anabolic stimulus. The most rational approach to delay the progression of sarcopenia and counteract the anabolic resistance is proper nutrition.

Bowel ultrasound imaging in patients with cystic fibrosis: Relationship with clinical symptoms and CFTR genotype.

Background: Ultrasound imaging is used to assess bowel abnormalities in gastrointestinal diseases. We aimed to assess the rate of predefined bowel ultrasound signs and their relationship with gastrointestinal symptoms and the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) genotype in cystic fibrosis patients in regular follow-up.

Methods: Prospective study of 70 consecutive patients with cystic fibrosis and 45 controls who underwent abdominal ultrasound; pertinent findings were related to gastrointestinal symptoms and, in cystic fibrosis patients, to pancreatic status, malabsorption degree, lipase intake, CFTR genotype (classified as severe or mild against functional class of CFTR mutations).
