Evaluating trends in radical prostatectomy approach and 30-day complication rate in Ontario from 2010-2019.

Introduction: Radical prostatectomy (RP) for prostate cancer has changed over the years with the advent of minimally invasive (MIRP) approaches, which includes robotic-assisted RP (RARP). The MIRP approaches have been shown to reduce complication rate, but there remain barriers to adoption. The objective of this study was to quantitatively describe the trend in the RP approach in Ontario, and to assess the trend in complication rates.

The impact of the Ontario quality-based procedures funding model on radical prostatectomy outcomes.

Introduction: In 2015, radical prostatectomy (RP) in Ontario transitioned to the quality-based procedures (QBP) funding model, which assigns disbursement from surgical quality indicator (QI) outcome performance. The objective of this study was to assess the QBP QI outcomes before and after implementation of the QBP funding model for RP, and to determine whether changes seen were attributable to the QBP model.

Methods: We conducted a population-based, retrospective cohort study including all men who underwent RP for prostate cancer in Ontario from 2010-2019.

Types and mechanisms of idiographic change during guided self-help for anxiety.

Objectives: To compare idiographic change during two formats of guided self-help (GSH); cognitive-behavioural therapy guided self-help (CBT-GSH) and cognitive analytic therapy guided self-help (CAT-GSH).

Design: Qualitative inductive thematic analysis.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews with N = 17 participants with a reliable change outcome on the GAD-7 after completing GSH for anxiety.

Integrated care model for patients with functional somatic symptom disorder - a co-produced stakeholder exploration with recommendations for best practice.

Background: Functional somatic symptoms (FFS) and bodily distress disorders are highly prevalent across all medical settings. Services for these patients are dispersed across the health care system with minimal conceptual and operational integration, and patients do not currently access therapeutic offers in significant numbers due to a mismatch between their and professionals' understanding of the nature of the symptoms. New service models are urgently needed to address patients' needs and to align with advances in aetiological evidence and diagnostic classification systems to overcome the body-mind dichotomy.

A shot in the dark: the impact of online visibility on the search for an effective sleep app.

Study Objectives: Dictated by consumer ratings and concealed algorithms, high levels of online visibility are granted to certain sleep apps on mainstream modes of app selection. Yet, it remains unclear to what extent these highly visible apps are evidence-based. The objectives of this review were to identify and describe the apps with the greatest online visibility when searching for a sleep app and to assess the claimed and actual research associated with them.

Incidence and survival of secondary malignancies after external beam radiotherapy for prostate cancer in the SEER database.

Introduction: We investigated the incidence of secondary bladder (BCa) and rectal cancers (RCa) after external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) for prostate cancer (PCa) compared to radical prostatectomy (RP) alone, and compared cancer-specific survival (CSS) of these secondary neoplasms to their primary counterparts.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included men in the SEER cancer registry with a diagnosis of non-metastatic, clinically node-negative PCa treated with either RP or EBRT from 1995-2011 and allowed a minimum five-year lag period for the development of secondary BCa or RCa. Patients were divided into two eras, 1995-2002 and 2003-2011, to examine differences in incidence of secondary malignancies over time.

In 2015, in partnership with a research team, the PROFAN program was initiated by a group of peers to counter the increasing number of overdose-related deaths in Montreal. As of 2018, they have offered, in collaboration with the Association des intervenants en dépendance du Québec (AIDQ) (Quebec Association of Addiction Workers), over 160 training sessions, and have connected with 500 Québec organizations, resulting in a total of over 2,000 participants. A participative evaluation process was undertaken with respect to the expansion of the program.

Cognitive-behavioural versus cognitive-analytic guided self-help for mild-to-moderate anxiety: a pragmatic, randomised patient preference trial.

Background: Guided self-help (GSH) for anxiety is widely implemented in primary care services because of service efficiency gains, but there is also evidence of poor acceptability, low effectiveness and relapse.

Aims: The aim was to compare preferences for, acceptability and efficacy of cognitive-behavioural guided self-help (CBT-GSH) versus cognitive-analytic guided self-help (CAT-GSH).

Method: This was a pragmatic, randomised, patient preference trial (Clinical trials identifier: NCT03730532).

A meta-analytic review of the effectiveness of psychological treatment of functional/dissociative seizures on non-seizure outcomes in adults.

Psychological therapies are considered the treatment of choice for functional/dissociative seizures (FDSs). Although most previous studies have focused on seizure persistence or frequency, it has been argued that well-being or health-related quality of life outcomes may actually be more meaningful. This study contributes by summarizing and meta-analyzing non-seizure outcomes to quantify the effectiveness of psychological treatment in this patient group.

Botryoid-type of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the proximal and mid ureter in an adult woman.

We report a unique case of botryoid-type embryonal RMS of the proximal and mid ureter in a pregnant 29-year-old woman. The ureteral polyp consisted of a malignant small blue round cell tumor with a myxoid background and contained evidence of foci of immature cartilage and aggregates of epithelial cells reminiscent of hair follicle. Immunohistochemical stains for myogenin and desmin confirmed skeletal muscle, or rhabdomyoblastic, differentiation.

Myopericytoma of the ureter Incidental finding of a benign slowly growing tumor.

We present a unique case of a 6 cm, incidental, ureteral myopericytoma which was initially believed to be an ovarian tumor with mass effect, causing hydroureteronephrosis. A 75-year-old woman presented with a three-month history of postprandial cramps and heartburn. A right distal ureterectomy with en-bloc resection of the mass was performed.

Participatory Methods to Improve and Develop Pediatric Nursing Practice: A Scoping Review.

Children's nurses in African pediatric settings are often responsible for leading practice improvements. There is a shortage of contextually relevant guidance to inform the design of practice improvement projects in African care settings. Distinctive features of children's nursing practice in Africa include high levels of family caregiver involvement, and organizational and professional cultures which value participation.

5α-reductase inhibitors and the risk of bladder cancer in a large, population-based cohort.

Purpose: The ability of 5α-reductase inhibitors (5ARI) to reduce the risk of new onset bladder cancer (BC) has been studied with variable results. Our objective was to conduct a retrospective cohort population-based study to evaluate the association between 5ARI use, BC diagnosis, and BC mortality.

We describe mental health services in Luxembourg and how they have evolved over the past 50 years. Health services in Luxembourg are provided through a social health insurance-based system and mental health services are no exception. Additional services are offered through mixed-funding avenues drawing on social care budgets in the main.

Mental health legislation in Luxembourg, a small country in Western Europe.

The article provides a brief overview of the legislation governing involuntary admissions to psychiatric hospitals in Luxembourg. The legislation was completely overhauled in 2009 and several human rights principles are enshrined into it. Emphasis is placed on voluntary, community-based treatment, and where compulsory treatment is required, it uses the least restrictive treatment option.

The British public generally adhered to COVID-19-related restrictions, but as the pandemic drew on, it became challenging for some populations. Parents with young children were identified as a vulnerable group. We collected rich, mixed-methods survey data from 99 UK-based parents (91 mothers) of children under 12, who described their lockdown transgressions.

Scope: Despite the large availability of vaccines, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), induced by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, continues to be a major threat for health-care providers and fragile people. A number of options are now available for outpatients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 at the risk of disease progression for the prevention of deaths or hospitalization.
