Objectives: This study was conducted to detect atherosclerotic plaques with somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) using Tc-99m-octreotide that binds to somatostatin receptor-2.
Methods: Of the 783 patients referred for myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), 52 underwent additional chest single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with Tc-99m-octreotide and participated in this study. In addition, 43 patients who underwent Tc-99m-octreotide scan for neuroendocrine tumor (NET) also received cardiac SPECT.
Background: Resistant hypertension is a common clinical problem of blood pressure that is not controlled despite the simultaneous application of multiple antihypertensive agents. Ablation of renal afferent nerves has been applied and proved to decrease hypertension and injuries produced by severe sympathetic hyperactivity. The main objective of this study was to investigate the long-term effect of renal artery sympathetic ablation and its complications in patients with treatment-resistant hypertension.

Methods: Thirty-three patients underwent gated myocardial perfusion tomography. Single photon emission computed tomography data of patients' heart were acquired by 180°, 45° left posterior oblique to 45° right anterior oblique, and 360° to obtain EDV, ESV, EF and cardiac volume changes (V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, V6, V7 and V8) throughout each cardiac cycle.
Objective: There is growing evidence that supports the existence of a link between lower levels of circulating omentin-1 and the pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerosis. However, no population-based study has been performed to elucidate the cardioprotective role of this beneficial adipocytokine.
Methods: A total of 378 healthy, postmenopausal women were randomly selected from 13 clusters in the port city of Bushehr, Iran.
Purpose: The main objective of the Bushehr Elderly Health Programme, in its first phase, is to investigate the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors and their association with major adverse cardiovascular events.
Participants: Between March 2013 and October 2014, a total of 3000 men and women aged ≥ 60 years, residing in Bushehr, Iran, participated in this prospective cohort study (participation rate=90.2%).
Background: Today, the fractional flow reserve (FFR) guides the physician to select suitable patients with intermediate severity coronary lesions in angiography that should be treated or not with stent. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of using FFR in the selection of appropriate treatment strategy in angiographic intermediate coronary lesions and their short-term outcome in a sample of Iranian population.
Methods: In a prospective cohort, 34 patients who had intermediate coronary artery lesion(s), defined as having a 40-70% diameter stenosis, as determined by visual estimation or quantitative coronary angiography were enrolled through a convenience sampling method.
Secondary erythrocytosis in cyanotic congenital heart disease (CCHD) is a compensatory response to chronic hypoxia which should be managed with caution. CCHD patients, who have compensated erythrocytosis but do not manifest significant neurologic symptoms, may experience secondary life-threatening complications such as stroke in case of inappropriate phlebotomy. This study reports a young man with CCHD who developed frequently repeated transient neurologic deficits with various presentations after one session of phlebotomy.

This study aimed to investigate the association between BMD and coronary artery disease (CAD). In this study the possible association of BMD with CAD in 65 men with CAD and in 49 men with normal angiography as well as in 51 women with CAD and in 51 normal women was investigated.

A 47-year-old man referred to us with atypical chest pain. Electrocardiography demonstrated no significant ischemic changes, but cardiac troponin I test was positive.

Patients And Methods: All patients enrolled in this study exhibited mild ischemia of the inferolateral wall on myocardial single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with 99mTc-MIBI, using the 20 left ventricular segments model.
Background: Chronic infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV), Chlamydia pneumoniae, herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1), and Helicobacter pylori may contribute to essential hypertension. However, the evidence now available does not clarify whether the aggregate number of pathogens (pathogen burden) may be associated with hypertension.
Methods: Sera from 1,754 men and women aged ≥25 years were analyzed for immunoglobulin G antibodies to C.
Background: Renal artery stenosis (RAS) has been increasingly recognized in the recent years, especially in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). RAS affects the patients with hypertension (HTN), but the exact prevalence is not known.
Objectives: This study was performed to determine the prevalence and to identify the predictors of RAS in hypertensive patients undergoing coronary artery angiography.
Background: There are limited data supporting an association between retinal microvascular changes and cardiovascular mortality, but there is no convincing evidence of an independent or direct association with atherosclerosis in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. The present study examines the relationship between retinal microvascular changes and angiographic findings.
Methods: Patients who were candidates for angiography were, at first, referred to the ophthalmology department for the determination of the severity of retinal atherosclerosis based on the Scheie classification.
Introduction: The product of heart rate and systolic blood pressure, termed as rate-pressure product (RPP), is a very reliable indicator of myocardial oxygen demand and is widely used clinically. There have been previous attempts to describe the relationship between RPP and the onset of pain in angina pectoris. The current study aimed to evaluate the association between RPP results and scan findings.
