Background And Purpose: Excitotoxicity in nerve cells is a type of neurotoxicity in which excessive stimulation of receptors (such as N-methyl-d-aspartate glutamate receptors (NMDAR)) leads to the influx of high-level calcium ions into cells and finally cell damage or death. This complication can occur after taking some of the plasminogen activators like tissue plasminogen activator and reteplase. The interaction of the kringle2 domain in such plasminogen activator with the amino-terminal domain (ATD) of the NR1 subunit of NMDAR finally leads to excitotoxicity.

Purpose: To estimate the prevalence, burden of refractive errors and their associated trend from 1990 to 2018 and geographic inequalities in Iran.

Methods: Data regarding the epidemiology of refractive errors was extracted from three different sources: systematic review of published literature, data from visual school screening programs, and data from Iran's national health survey (NHS). The pool of all available data on refractive errors as well as demographic, location, and socioeconomic status covariates were fitted in spatio-temporal and Gaussian process regression models to predict the prevalence of refractive errors from the years 1990 to 2018 in 31 provinces grouped by age and sex in order to calculate years lived with disability (YLDs).

A partial pancreaticogastrodudenectomy was performed on a 66-year old man with type 2 diabetes mellitus because of an invasive, moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in the head of the pancreas. In the adjacent grossly normal tissue of the uncinate process, there was a massive proliferation of pancreatic polypeptide (PP) cells confined to this region and showed invasive pattern. Strikingly, in the heaped area of his duodenum, there was a strikingly large number of PP, glucagon, a few insulin cells in a mini-islet-like patterns composed of glucagon and insulin cells.

Context: The association between islet cells and neural elements, the so-called "neuro-insular complex", has been known for centuries.

Objective: We examined the expression of beta-III tubulin, in normal pancreases from organ donors, surgical specimens of chronic pancreatitis, surgical specimens of ductal type carcinoma, isolated and purified islets of a 57-year-old male and the pancreases of adult Syrian golden hamsters by immunohistochemistry using a monoclonal antibody to beta-tubulin.

Results: In the normal pancreas of humans and hamsters, beta-III tubulin was expressed in alpha- and beta-cells, but not in PP cells, neural fibers and gangliae.

Materials And Methods: Pancreatic tissues from 11 donors (five without pancreatic disease and six with type 2 diabetes) and 11 surgical specimens from PC patients obtained from the cancer area (zone A) and the adjacent tumor-free area (zone B) were examined immunohistochemically. The size of islets, the number on beta-, alpha-, delta- pp- and IAPP-expressing cells and their ratios in the islets of these tissues were determined.

RBF-2 is a factor comprised of a USF1/2 heterodimer, whose association with a highly conserved upstream element (RBEIII) on the HIV-1 LTR requires a co-factor TFII-I. We have identified specific nucleotides, immediately 3' of RBEIII that are required for stable association of TFII-I with this region of the LTR. Mutations that inhibit interaction of TFII-I with DNA also prevent stimulation of USF binding to RBEIII, and render the integrated LTR unresponsive to T cell signaling.
