Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is a rare complication after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) adenoviral vector vaccination. In British Columbia (BC), Canada, a provincial clinical care pathway was developed to guide clinicians in evaluating for VITT among patients who present with thrombocytopenia or thrombosis symptoms within 4 to 28 days after adenoviral vector vaccine exposure. All patients had enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) testing for platelet factor 4 (PF4) antibodies, and all cases with positive PF4-ELISA or d-dimer levels ≥2.

Mutations in the unc-23 gene in the free-living nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans result in detachment and dystrophy of the anterior body wall musculature and a bent-head phenotype when grown on solid substrate. We have determined that the unc-23 gene product is the nematode ortholog of the human BAG-2 protein, a member of the Bcl-2 associated athanogene (BAG) family of molecular chaperone regulators. We show that a functional GFP-tagged UNC-23 protein is expressed throughout development in several tissues of the animal, including body wall muscle and hypodermis, and associates with adhesion complexes and attachment structures within these 2 tissues.

UNC-97/PINCH is an evolutionarily conserved protein that contains five LIM domains and is located at cell-extracellular matrix attachment sites known as cell adhesion complexes. To understand the role of UNC-97/PINCH in cell adhesion, we undertook a combined genetic and cell biological approach to identify the steps required to assemble cell adhesion complexes in Caenorhabditis elegans. First, we have generated a complete loss of function mutation in the unc-97 coding region.
