Food and beverage marketing has been shown to affect youth's preferences, purchases, and consumption of marketed products. Previous research suggests that outdoor food and beverage marketing differs by community demographics, with more advertisements in lower-income communities and near schools.

Father's Playbook: From Health Communication Research to Prenatal Health Intervention.

Research has demonstrated benefits of paternal involvement during the prenatal stage: increased prenatal visits, better adherence to postpartum best practices, and improved communication between partners. In the United States, where maternal morbidity remains higher than other advanced economies, the need for varied interventions aimed at improving the wellbeing of the entire family unit should remain a top priority. Background: The purpose of this study was to describe the impact of COVID-19 on fatherhood experiences during pregnancy.

Methods: A semi-structured interview guide was developed to collect qualitative data from fathers about their experiences in pregnancy and prenatal care, how they communicated with providers, strategies for information seeking, and social support they received during the pregnancy. One-time, virtual interviews were conducted via Zoom with fathers that were either expecting a baby or fathers who had a baby after March 2020 and were 18 years or older.

School-Level Socioeconomic Status and Nutrient Content of Outdoor Food/Beverage Advertisements.

We examined if areas around schools with more students of lower socioeconomic status (SES) have more total food/beverage advertisements and/or more advertisements with poorer nutritional content as compared to areas around schools with fewer students with lower SES. All outdoor food/beverage advertisements within a half-mile radius of 47 middle and high schools in the United States were objectively documented in 2012 and coded for nutritional content. The total number of advertisements and the macronutrient and micronutrient contents (total calories, fat (g), protein (g), carbohydrate (g), sugar (g), and sodium (mg)) of food and beverage items depicted in the advertisements were calculated.

Surgical Management and Return to Activity of an Athlete with Traumatic Posterior Tibial Tendon Rupture and Associated Injuries: A Case Report.

Olecranon Fracture in an Older Adult Treated With Locking Plate Osteosynthesis.

Although olecranon fractures are not uncommon in the geriatric population, there has been a considerable difference of opinion between surgical and nonsurgical treatments. Surgical treatment is usually deferred in the elderly, even for displaced olecranon fractures, because of inherent risks associated with poor bone quality and soft tissues, which often necessitate further surgeries. However, nonoperative treatment frequently results in an inability to regain full extension strength of the elbow, which can be disabling in select older adults with higher functional demands.

Qualities of the Restaurant Food Environment: A Direct Observation Pilot Study of Restaurants Located Near High Schools.

This study aimed to identify and describe healthful and youth-oriented qualities of the restaurant food environment around high schools. Using direct observation data from 58 restaurants located within a half-mile (804.5 meters) of all high schools in a single district, two index measures of the restaurant food environment were created: healthfulness index and youth-oriented index.

Background/purpose: Resource-based severity of injury (SOI) measures, such as the International Classification of Disease (ICD) Critical Care Severity Score (ICASS), may characterize traumatic burden better than standard mortality-based measures. The purpose of this study was to validate the ICASS in a representative national-level trauma cohort and compare SOI measures between children and adults.

Methods: The National Trauma Databank was used to derive (2008-12) and validate (2013-15) ICASS and ICD Injury Severity Scores (ICISS, standard mortality-based SOI measure).

Background: Mortality-based metrics like the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) Injury Severity Score (ICISS) may underestimate burden of pediatric traumatic disease due to lower mortality rates in children. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate two resource-based severity of injury (SOI) measures, then compare these measures and the ICISS across a broad age spectrum of injured patients.

Methods: The ICISS and two novel SOI measures, termed ICD Critical Care Severity Score (ICASS) and ICD General Anesthesia Severity Score (IGASS), were derived from Florida state administrative 2012 to 2016 data and validated with 2017 data.
