Adipogenesis is regulated by the coordinated activity of adipogenic transcription factors including PPAR-gamma and C/EBP alpha, while dysregulated adipogenesis can predispose adipose tissues to adipocyte hypertrophy and hyperplasia. We have previously reported that -null mice have increased adiposity compared to wildtype mice, supporting the notion that CTHRC1 regulates body composition. Herein, we derived conditioned medium from 3T3-L1 cells expressing human and investigated its anti-adipogenic activity.

Background: While third-level educational institutions have long provided counselling, a sharp rise in demand has led to limited access to mental health supports for many students, including those with ongoing difficulties. Digital mental health interventions represent one response to this unmet need, given the potential low cost and scalability associated with no-to-low human resources involved.

Objective: The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature examining effectiveness of digital mental health interventions for university students with ongoing mental health difficulties.

Background: Web-based tools have gained popularity to inform and empower individuals in advance care planning. We have developed an interactive website tailored to the unique needs of people with dementia and their families to support advance care planning. This website aims to break away from the rigid pathways shown in other tools that support advance care planning, in which advance care planning is shown as a linear process from information to reflection, communication, and documentation.

Di-2-ethylhexyl terephthalate (DEHTP) is a replacement for its structural isomer di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), a known endocrine disrupting chemical and ovarian toxicant. DEHTP is used as a plasticizer in polyvinyl chloride products and its metabolites are increasingly found in biomonitoring studies at levels similar to phthalates. However, little is known about the effects of DEHTP on the ovary.

Virtual labs have been implemented in a number of diverse educational settings, which have many purported benefits including their adaptability, accessibility, and repeatability. However, few studies have evaluated the impact of virtual laboratories outside of academic achievement and skills competencies, especially in biotechnology.

Longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis (LETM) is traditionally classified as an inflammatory disorder of the spinal cord spanning three or more vertebral segments. The differential diagnosis for TM is vast and can include infectious, nutritional, and can even be idiopathic in some reported cases. However, autoimmune etiologies such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can rarely present with neurological manifestations such as LETM.

Young peoples' reflections about using a chatbot to promote their mental wellbeing in northern periphery areas - a qualitative study.

An international research collaboration with researchers from northern Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and developed the ChatPal chatbot to explore the possibility of a multilingual chatbot to promote mental wellbeing in people of all ages. In Sweden the end users were young people. The aim of the current study was to explore and discuss Swedish young peoples' experiences of using a chatbot designed to promote their mental wellbeing.

Coproduction of accessible digital mental health supports in partnership with young people from marginalised backgrounds: a scoping review protocol.

Introduction: Despite the evidence supporting the value of digital supports for enhancing youth mental health services, there is a lack of guidance on how best to engage with young people in coproduction processes during the design and evaluation of these technologies. User input is crucial in digital mental health, especially for disadvantaged, vulnerable and marginalised young people as they are often excluded from coproduction. A scoping review of international literature written in English will explore the coproduction processes with marginalised young people in digital mental health supports, from mental health promotion to targeted interventions.

A Sodium Oxychlorosene-Based Infection Prevention Protocol Safely Decreases Postoperative Wound Infections in Adult Spinal Deformity Surgery.

Introduction: This study sought to determine the efficacy of a complex multi-institutional sodium oxychlorosene-based infection protocol for decreasing the rate of surgical site infection after instrumented spinal surgery for adult spinal deformity (ASD). Infection prevention protocols have not been previously studied in ASD patients.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed of patients who underwent posterior instrumented spinal fusion of the thoracic or lumbar spine for deformity correction between January 1, 2011, and May 31, 2019.

Digital transformation of mental health services.

This paper makes a case for digital mental health and provides insights into how digital technologies can enhance (but not replace) existing mental health services. We describe digital mental health by presenting a suite of digital technologies (from digital interventions to the application of artificial intelligence). We discuss the benefits of digital mental health, for example, a digital intervention can be an accessible stepping-stone to receiving support.

Multiomic profiling of human clonal hematopoiesis reveals genotype and cell-specific inflammatory pathway activation.

Clonal hematopoiesis (CH) is an age-associated phenomenon that increases the risk of hematologic malignancy and cardiovascular disease. CH is thought to enhance disease risk through inflammation in the peripheral blood.1 Here, we profile peripheral blood gene expression in 66 968 single cells from a cohort of 17 patients with CH and 7 controls.

Extracellular metallothionein as a therapeutic target in the early progression of type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is characterized by lymphocyte infiltration into the pancreatic islets of Langerhans, leading to the destruction of insulin-producing beta cells and uncontrolled hyperglycemia. In the nonobese diabetic (NOD) murine model of T1D, the onset of this infiltration starts several weeks before glucose dysregulation and overt diabetes. Recruitment of immune cells to the islets is mediated by several chemotactic cytokines, including CXCL10, while other cytokines, including SDF-1α, can confer protective effects.

United States Government-Supported Family Planning and Reproductive Health Outreach in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: Lessons Learned and Recommendations.

Background: In response to limited contraception availability and a lack of knowledge about family planning (FP) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Integrated Health Program (IHP) in the DRC has been providing FP services, including outreach programs in the DRC. Our study aims to assess the FP outreach program by understanding the participants' perception of the campaign, its impact on their behavior, and their feedback regarding the campaign. Additionally, we draw insights from lessons learned and provide recommendations.
