Purpose: The availability of a simple and reliable marker of biological age might allow an acceleration of the research in the field of longevity extension. Previous studies suggest that this marker might be the N-terminal of B-type natriuretic peptide precursor (NT-proBNP), from which proBNPage, a biological age surrogate, can be calculated. Objectives of the study: 1) To fine-tune the method of proBNPage progression assessment and 2) To establish whether 4 "anti-aging" treatments, which provided promising results in previous studies, can modify proBNPage progression.

Background: While it is not uncommon in patients with head and neck cancer to present with multiple metachronous primary neoplasms, rarely do these present as a singular mass composed of intertwined, histologically distinct malignant tumors. Sometimes referred to as collision tumors, these entities are poorly understood and only appear in a handful of case studies in the literature.

Case Report: Here we present a 58-year-old male diagnosed with a human papillomavirus-related collision tumor consisting of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, as well as an incidentally discovered metastatic thyroid papillary carcinoma, despite an unremarkable thyroid gland.

Assessing the viewpoints of health care professionals concerning their work with chronic patients is a relatively new research topic, widely overlooked in the literature. However, understanding their subjective work experience is highly relevant for identifying problems and perceived resources, enhancing health service organisation, improving relationships or communication with patients, and maintaining well-being. Qualitative data from the "Haemophilia Experience, Results and Opportunities" Initiative - a research program aimed at investigating the psychosocial aspects of hemophilia - were used to evaluate the experiences of 62 professionals from seven countries around the world.

The study illuminates the subjective experience of haemophilia in people who took part in the Haemophilia Experience, Results and Opportunities (HERO) initiative, a quali-quantitative research program aimed at exploring psychosocial issues concerning this illness around the world. Applying a bottom-up analytic process with the help of software for textual data, we investigated 19 interviews in order to describe the core themes and the latent factors of speech, to explore the role of different variables in shaping the participants' illness experiences. The five themes detected are feeling different from others, body pain, acquisition of knowledge and resources, family history, and integration of care practices in everyday life.

This work reports a multimodal system for label-free tissue diagnosis combining fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIm), ultrasound backscatter microscopy (UBM), and photoacoustic imaging (PAI). This system provides complementary biochemical, structural and functional features allowing for enhanced in vivo detection of oral carcinoma. Results from a hamster oral carcinoma model (normal, precancer and carcinoma) are presented demonstrating the ability of FLIm to delineate biochemical composition at the tissue surface, UBM and related radiofrequency parameters to identify disruptions in the tissue microarchitecture and PAI to map optical absorption associated with specific tissue morphology and physiology.

To understand the normalization process in families with hemophiliac children, and to explore the impact of two different therapeutic regimes on it (on-demand therapy and prophylaxis), we conducted a two-phase study using semistructured interviews. In the course of the first phase, we interviewed 13 parents belonging to 10 families with hemophiliac children in on-demand therapy. In the second phase, 5 years later, we repeated the interviews with three families who began prophylaxis at different times.

This work presents a semiotic approach to the economy, underlining that any economic phenomena is at the same time a communicative act as it is contingent to sense-making. The article discusses this topic by focusing on a specific phenomenon studied by economics: the underground economy. It shows that the conceptualization of the underground economy in terms of sense-making processes offers a thought-provoking perspective for theoretical development.

Pleural and pulmonary malignancies are usually associated with previous asbestos exposure and the presence of simian virus 40 (SV40) has been detected in these neoplasms. Our study aimed to investigate the health situation among mechanics servicing buses, ex-exposed to asbestos, who received polio vaccines contaminated by SV 40. We conducted a descriptive study and so we recruited, on the basis of birth date and duration in the current job, 39 mechanics, born since 1950 until 1965, with length of service above 15 years.

Just like in other areas of the medical science antibiotics are widely used in oral surgery, too. The aim of the present study is to give a retrospective survey of the use of antibiotics between the years 1989-1998 in the Section of Oral surgery of the Stomatological Department of the Medical and Health Science Centre of Debrecen University. Examined in the study was the antibiotic therapy of patients admitted to the ward, since that was accessible for follow-up unequivocally.

The pharyngo-cutan defect is a frequent complication of oropharynx and larynx operations. The not frequent serious actinomycotic inflammation of the neck, and in its treatment the repeated surgical incision was in the background of the defect. The authors review the possibilities of closing these defects, and they describe the method used.

The salivary excretion of cefoxitin (Mefoxin), a second-generation beta-lactam antibiotic of the cefalosporin group, which shows enhanced anti-anaerobic effect was investigated in oral surgery patients. In animal experiments the saliva levels of imipenem (Tienam) and meropenem (Meronem), which also belong to the betalactam carbapenem group were studied. The antibiotics were administered parenterally in single therapeutic doses, then blood samples were taken first after half an hour then hourly, and mixed saliva was collected for 6 hours.

The perforating facial defects are often results of the removal of malignant tumours and less commonly are caused by accidents and shotgun injuries. The advent of musculocutan flaps and the microvascular tissue transplantation has made essential changes in the treatment of full thickness cheek defects during the last decade. The authors describe three cases, where the reconstruction has been made with free radial forearm flaps.

Maxillofacial fractures under 10 years of age are uncommon, with an occurrence of 7.3%. Isolated fractures of the mandible are even more rare, due to the fact that in young children the mandible is relatively small and resilient.

The qualitative results of FCM DNA analysis on fresh and fixed urine specimens (28 and 97, respectively) from 68 normal subjects and 10 patients with a past history of bladder cancer were compared. FCM DNA evaluability was not significantly different in fresh and fixed samples (63% vs 73%, respectively) whereas mean CV was significantly higher (7.3% vs 5.
