Various substituted D-hexopypyranosides units with nitrogen-containing functionalities are present in many important natural compounds and pharmaceutical substances. Since their complex structural diversity contributes to a broad spectrum of biological functions and activities, these derivatives are frequently studied. This review covers syntheses of D-hexopyranosides with vicinal nitrogen-containing functionalities since the 1960s, when the first articles emerged.

Although numerous benzimidazole derivatives have been synthesized, possible atropisomerism of -substituted 1-phenylbenzimidazoles has been largely overlooked.

Using Sanger and next-generation sequencing, 11 different COL2A1 variants (seven novel), were identified in 13 families (19 affected individuals), all diagnosed with Stickler syndrome (STL) type 1. In nine families, the COL2A1 disease-causing variant arose de novo.

Acyclic precursors were prepared from commercially available building blocks: protected amino acids (2,4-diaminobutyric acid and ornithine), 2-nitrobenzensulfonyl chlorides and α-bromoacetophenones. The crucial step of the synthesis was a base-mediated tandem reaction including C-arylation followed by cyclization into indazole oxides, and the formation of a 5-membered heterocycle was accomplished by ring expansion into quinazolines.

In our previous report, we have shown myocyte hypertrophy with no fibrosis and decrease in gap junctional coupling via connexin43 in a rat model of aorto-caval fistula at 21 weeks. Here we set to analyze the electrophysiological and protein expression changes in the left ventricle and correlate them with phenotypic severity based upon ventricles to body weight ratio.

Fludarabine is a purine analog clinically still widely used in the therapy of relapsed MCL. Molecular mechanisms of fludarabine resistance have not, however, been studied in the setting of MCL so far.

The source of infection was a man with a history of travel to India. The outbreak was primarily observed in the patients contacts and then spread widely to healthcare workers of the Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem.

Implementation of high-dose cytarabine (araC) into induction therapy became standard-of-care for all newly diagnosed younger MCL patients. However, many patients relapse even after araC-based regimen.

To gain deeper insight into the molecular pathophysiology of volume overload-induced HF and to identify potential markers and targets for novel therapies, we performed proteomic and mRNA expression analysis comparing myocardium from Wistar rats with HF induced by a chronic aorto-caval fistula (ACF) and sham-operated rats harvested at the advanced, decompensated stage of HF.
Methods: We analyzed control and failing myocardium employing iTRAQ labeling, two-dimensional peptide separation combining peptide IEF and nano-HPLC with MALDI-MS/MS.
Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer death in women. Absence of a reliable biomarker precludes early diagnosis of the disease. To identify new proteins with potential diagnostic or prognostic value for the therapy of ovarian cancer we performed comparative proteomic analysis of sera from ovarian cancer patients and healthy women.

The goal of this study was to describe changes in myocardial morphology and to characterize arrhythmogenic substrate in rat model of developing HF due to volume overload. An arteriovenous fistula (AVF) was created in male Wistar rats between the inferior vena cava and abdominal aorta using needle technique.

For the determination of mefenoxalon in substance, tablets and biological material (blood plasma), four variants were worked out. The first of them is based on the substitution of the benzene ring with bromine with the use of an excess of bromine, which is determined ionometrically. The second variant is based on direct titration of the hydrolytic product mefenoxalon, 3-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-2-hydroxypropylamine, with the use of the ion-selective electrode of the coated-wire type with a volumetric solution of tetraphenyl-borsodium.

There was performed light microscopic and morphometric comparison of changes in the intestinal mucosa structure after the irradiation of the lower part of body by radiation 60Co in a dose of 12 Gy, observed the third day after irradiation in piglets kept under conventional conditions and the fifth, the fifteenth and the twentieth days after irradiation in piglets kept under the conditions of selective decontamination by peroral antibiotics. The non-irradiated animals kept conventionally as well as under the conditions of decontamination served as controls. The estimation was performed on transverse slices of the cranial part of jejunum and of the caudal part of ileum.

One of the basic conditions, enabling the healthy living in flat houses, is the securing of thermoisolation properties of peripheral building elements. The presented study deals with the verification of thermoisolation properties by the method using the liquid crystal thermoindicators and thermographic sheets. The applied method is effective, sufficiently precise and mobile, allowing the estimation of thermoisolation properties of building elements, namely in practice.

The paper describes a case of skin wounds inflicted by automutilation in a young woman with psychic regulation disorder. Repeated local irritation and infection produced a complicated systemic disorder leading to hypochromic anaemia which failed to respond to Fe treatment. The paper discusses the mechanism of this type of anaemia which appears in literature under the heading of anaemia of chronic disease (ACD).

The presented study deals with the changes of thermooptic qualities of thermographic sheet, provoked by UV irradiation. The thermographic sheets of inland provenance produced by are possible to use in medical coloured surface thermography. The method adapted for measuring gives quite reproducible results and for its relative simplicity it is convenient for medical workplaces where the surface thermography and the UV radiation sources are in use.
