Background: Evidence supports the use of multi-modal approaches to develop nurse practitioner (NP) students' telehealth competency.
Method: A virtual flipped classroom approach that included eLearning, interactive webinars, and virtual standardized patient (SP) simulations was implemented and evaluated to teach NP students to use telehealth and other connected health technologies to improve care for underserved populations.
Results: Analysis of data from multiple-choice quizzes, surveys, and SP evaluations indicated students achieved high levels of knowledge, met the learning objectives, demonstrated above-average competency during telehealth simulations that improved over time, and were highly satisfied with the learning experiences.
In recent years, much of the emphasis for transformation of introductory STEM courses has focused on "active learning", and while this approach has been shown to produce more equitable outcomes for students, the construct of "active learning" is somewhat ill-defined and is often used as a "catch-all" that can encompass a wide range of pedagogical techniques. Here we present an alternative approach for how to think about the transformation of STEM courses that focuses instead on what students should know and what they can do with that knowledge. This approach, known as three-dimensional learning (3DL), emerged from the National Academy's "A Framework for K-12 Science Education", which describes a vision for science education that centers the role of constructing productive causal accounts for phenomena.

Thus, the objective was to design and usability test a weight gain prevention digital learning platform for college students with modules targeting key nutrition and physical activity behaviors.
Methods: Development occurred in iterative phases: formative research, descriptive normative data collection, prototype development, and usability testing.
The importance of improving STEM education is of perennial interest, and to this end, the education community needs ways to characterize transformation efforts. Three-dimensional learning (3DL) is one such approach to transformation, in which core ideas of the discipline, scientific practices, and crosscutting concepts are combined to support student development of disciplinary expertise. Background: The nursing profession needs solid evidence of the important contributions that continuing education (CE) makes to nursing practice change. We analyzed nurses' intent to change practice, actual practice change, and examples of practice change after completing CE courses of differing types, topics, and geographic locations.
Method: A retrospective, mixed-methods study design was used to assess quantitative and qualitative survey data gathered upon completion and within 1 year following completion of 16 different CE courses.
Recent calls for improvement in undergraduate education within STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) disciplines are hampered by the methods used to evaluate teaching effectiveness. Faculty members at research universities are commonly assessed and promoted mainly on the basis of research success. To improve the quality of undergraduate teaching across all disciplines, not only STEM fields, requires creating an environment wherein continuous improvement of teaching is valued, assessed, and rewarded at various stages of a faculty member's career.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFTo help address the challenges of providing undergraduate nursing education in an accelerated time frame, the Teaching and Transforming through Technology (T3) project was funded to transition a second-degree ABSN program to a blended learning format. The project has explored the use of blended learning to: enable flexible solutions to support teaching goals and address course challenges; provide students with new types of independent learning activities outside of the traditional classroom; increase opportunities for active learning in the classroom; and improve students' digital literacy and lifelong learning skills. Program evaluation included quality reviews of the redesigned courses, surveys of student perceptions, pre- and post-program assessment of students' digital literacy and interviews with faculty about their experiences with the new teaching methods.

The phosphorescence spectrum of ZnCytc exhibits resolved vibronic structure arising from in-plane deformations of the porphyrin macrocycle, as is also observed in the absorption and fluorescence spectra. As the emission time increases, the phosphorescence spectrum shifts to the red without incurring a significant change in vibronic structure or line shape, so the shift arises from dynamic solvation, the reorganizational motions of the protein and solvent that occur in response to formation of the first excited triplet state.

Here, we report a Drosophila disabled mutant revealing a novel role for DAB proteins in chemical synaptic transmission. This mutant exhibits impaired synaptic function, including a rapid activity-dependent reduction in neurotransmitter release and disruption of synaptic vesicle endocytosis.
