Electron quantum optics aims to realize ideas from the quantum theory of light with the role of photons being played by charge pulses in electronic conductors. Experimentally, the charge pulses are excited by time-dependent voltages; however, one could also generate heat pulses by heating and cooling an electrode. Here, we explore this intriguing idea by formulating a Floquet scattering theory of heat pulses in mesoscopic conductors.

The prevalence of mental disorders in adolescents has a considerable impact on daily life, restricting tasks and diminishing overall quality of life while potentially leading to stigmatization. This study aims to measure the impact of a mental health literacy intervention program, called "Bicho de 7 Cabeças" project, in b-learning format, on the increase of knowledge and the decrease of stigma in young people from Póvoa de Varzim, in Portugal. A quasi-experimental study was conducted, from November 2022 to May 2023, involving an experimental group ("Bicho de 7 Cabeças" protocol) and an active control group (informational brochures), utilizing a pre-test/post-test design.

Emergency response plays a critical role in mitigating the impact of disasters and ensuring public safety. Understanding a city's capability for emergency response is vital for effective disaster management and urban planning. This paper describes a comprehensive geospatial dataset that assesses the emergency response capability of cities in Portugal based on their urban infrastructure, accounting for the number of hospitals, police stations, fire department units, and metro/railway stations.

Portugal has Europe's second-highest prevalence of psychiatric illnesses, and this is the reason why mental health literacy (MHL) and stigma should be addressed. This study aimed to investigate the mental health literacy and stigma levels among different groups of people from Póvoa de Varzim, a municipality in the north of Portugal. Students, retired people, and professionals (education, social, and healthcare fields) were recruited using a convenience sample from June to November 2022.

This study aimed to explore the feasibility and effects of promoting reminiscences, using virtual reality (VR) headsets for viewing 360° videos with personal relevance, with people with dementia. A study with a mixed methods design was conducted with nine older adults diagnosed with dementia. Interventions consisted of four sessions, in which the participants' engagement, psychological and behavioral symptoms, and simulation sickness symptoms were evaluated.

In critical industrial monitoring and control applications, dependability evaluation will be usually required. For wireless sensor networks deployed in industrial plants, dependability evaluation can provide valuable information, enabling proper preventive or contingency measures to assure their correct and safe operation. However, when employing sensor nodes equipped with cameras, visual coverage failures may have a deep impact on the perceived quality of industrial applications, besides the already expected impacts of hardware and connectivity failures.

Aortoesophageal fistulas are uncommon, dreadful vascular events, most frequently found in the setting of thoracic aorta aneurysms. Patients usually present with thoracic pain, dysphagia and sentinel hematemesis - the Chiari triad - followed by life threatening hematemesis. Emergent open surgery with debridement of necrotic tissue and in situ aortic graft repair is currently the best strategy.

The development of efficient sensing technologies and the maturation of the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm and related protocols have considerably fostered the expansion of sensor-based monitoring applications. A great number of those applications has been developed to monitor a set of information for better perception of the environment, with some of them being dedicated to identifying emergency situations. Current IoT-based emergency systems have limitations when considering the broader scope of smart cities, exploiting one or just a few monitoring variables or even allocating high computational burden to regular sensor nodes.

With this trial we have tested the effects of structural and chemical composition of neutral detergent fibre (NDF) of the diet on lamb fatty acid composition of meat and subcutaneous fat. Twenty lambs, were fed complete diets with low starch and similar NDF content of different origin (ground alfalfa or soybean hulls). Animal performance and product quality were not affected by treatments.

Acute mesenteric ischaemia (AMI) is an uncommon cause of acute hospital admission with high mortality rates (50-90%) that requires early diagnosis and treatment. With the increase in average life expectancy, AMI represents one of the most threatening abdominal conditions in elderly patients. Untreated, AMI will cause mesenteric infarction, intestinal necrosis, an overwhelming inflammatory response and death.

Wireless sensor networks have been considered as an effective solution to a wide range of applications due to their prominent characteristics concerning information retrieving and distributed processing. When visual information can be also retrieved by sensor nodes, applications acquire a more comprehensive perception of monitored environments, fostering the creation of wireless visual sensor networks. As such networks are being more often considered for critical monitoring and control applications, usually related to catastrophic situation prevention, security enhancement and crises management, fault tolerance becomes a major expected service for visual sensor networks.

Meat from lambs finished with high-starch diets often contains low concentration of vaccenic (t11-18:1) and rumenic (c9,t11-18:2) acids and high concentration of t10-18:1. We hypothesized that replacing cereals by dehydrated citrus pulp (DCP) and the inclusion of tanniferous feed sources in oil supplemented diets might reduce the accumulation of t10-18:1 and increase the t11-18:1 and c9,t11-18:2 in lamb meat, without affecting the productive performance. In total, 32 lambs were assigned to four diets which combine two factors: basal diet (BD) (cereals v.

Energy consumption is a major issue in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), as nodes are powered by chemical batteries with an upper bounded lifetime. Estimating the lifetime of batteries is a difficult task, as it depends on several factors, such as operating temperatures and discharge rates. Analytical battery models can be used for estimating both the battery lifetime and the voltage behavior over time.

Objectives: The main objective of this paper is to illustrate and analyse the spectrum of MDCT findings of the entities that compose acute aortic syndrome (AAS) - namely acute aortic dissection (AD), intramural hematoma (IMH) and penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer (PAU) - discussing their pathophysiology. These related entities have a similar nonspecific clinical presentation mimicking other conditions such as myocardial infarction. Therefore, a high degree of clinical suspicion should prompt immediate confirmation by non-invasive imaging techniques which can modify its natural history, being MDCT the technique of choice, allowing accurate detection, characterization and complications evaluation in the Emergency Department.

Background: This study is an empirical assessment of the impact of the drug decriminalization policy followed by Portugal in July 2001, on the price of illicit drugs.

Methods: The analysis is performed using a difference-in-differences approach and the Synthetic Control Method in order to construct a synthetic control unit from a convex combination of countries.

Results: The results suggest that the prices of opiates and cocaine in the post-treatment period did not decrease in the sequence of the policy change.

Introduction: The difficulty in differentiating invasive from non-invasive thymic tumours solely by histological features, leads to the decision of resecting suspected lesions except in the presence of: (a) diffuse metastasis; or (b) typical imaging findings of thymic hyperplasia or after recovering from some recent stress. Therefore, the role of radiology is of the utmost importance in the initial evaluation and staging of thymic mediastinal masses.

Methods: The objective of this study was to elaborate a retrospective analysis of the cases of thymic lesions that underwent surgery at the Cardiothoracic Department of Centro Hospitalar Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho (CHVNG/E), from January 2013 to December 2016, illustrating their main radiologic findings with computed tomography (CT) images.
