Improvement in quadriceps strength and dyspnea in daily tasks after 1 month of electrical stimulation in severely deconditioned and malnourished COPD.

Study Objectives: Low body weight in COPD patients is associated with worsening dyspnea, reduced leg strength, and poor prognosis. Classical rehabilitation strategies are then limited by reduced exercise tolerance. Thus, we proposed to evaluate whether electrostimulation (ES) was a beneficial technique in the rehabilitation programs for severely deconditioned COPD patients after an acute exacerbation.

[Reappraisal of the role of endobronchial brachytherapy in the management of lung cancer: ten years' experience at the centre Antoine-Lacassagne].

Purpose: Intra-operative intertitial brachytherapy has been applied in the curative and palliative treatment of lung cancer. Implantation of radio-active sources offers an advantage over external irradiation because of the limited penetrability from source to prescription point, resulting in rapid dose fall-off and sparing of surrounding normal tissues. The aim of this study was to re-evaluate retrospectively the Antoine-Lacassagne cancer center experience in endobronchial brachytherapy by low dose rate (LDR) or high dose rate (HDR) and to design perspectives for the next decades.

Dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase circadian rhythm in mouse liver: comparison between enzyme activity and gene expression.

Dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) is the rate-limiting enzyme of 5-fluorouracil (FU) catabolism. The relevance of the measurement of DPD activity for identifying DPD-deficient patients is lessened by circadian variability in DPD activity. Our purpose was to determine whether or not DPD mRNA is sustained by a circadian rhythm.

Primary lung sarcomas: long survivors obtained with iterative complete surgery.

Primary lung sarcomas are uncommon histologic types of primary lung cancer and presents a wide spectrum of clinical behaviour. Nine patients treated at Antoine Lacassagne Cancer Center between 1982 and 1995 were studied. The median age was 63 years (range, 35-73 years) and the most common histologic types were malignant fibrous histiocytoma (four) and leiomyosarcoma (three).
