Renal thromboembolism during treatment with recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa) in a child with hemophilia B with factor IX inhibitors.

Background: Serious thromboembolic events connected with rFVIIa therapy in hemophilia patients are rare. Only three cases are reported in children, all of them with hemophilia A.

Case Presentation: We present unique case of patient with hemophilia B and high titer inhibitors to coagulation FIX, who developed severe renal damage due to thromboembolic event during rFVIIa therapy, associated with unsuspected renovascular anomalies.

The 6th International Congress of the Croatian Society of Nuclear Medicine gives an overview of present-day nuclear medicine. The congress shows that Croatian nuclear medicine follows the general trends of the European nuclear medicine.

Evaluation of cytogenetic damage in nuclear medicine personnel occupationally exposed to low-level ionising radiation.

The aim of this study was to provide data on genetic hazards associated with occupational exposure to low doses of ionising radiation in nuclear medicine departments. The DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes of medical staff was assessed using the chromosome aberration test. Altogether 120 subjects (60 exposed and 60 controls) participated in the study.

Bone marrow immunoscintigraphy in haematological patients with pancytopenia: preliminary results.

The aim of this study was to assess the clinical value of bone marrow immunoscintigraphy using the (99m)Tc labelled anti-NCA-95 antigranulocyte antibodies (AGAb) and of AGAb bone marrow uptake ratio (UR) in the initial diagnostic work-up of diseases with depression of the bone marrow. Twenty-four whole-body bone marrow scans were performed in 23 patients (11 women, 12 men; median age 46 years, range 17-74 years) 5 h after i.v.

Successful early pyeloplasty in infants.

Background: Early pyeloplasty for the treatment of congenital ureteropelvic junction obstruction to maximize nephron salvage is justified only if potential hazards of operating on small infants are avoided.

Methods: The records were analyzed of all infants who underwent pyeloplasty over a 5-year period. Open pyeloplasty was performed if collecting systems had deteriorated or were demonstrated to be obstructed; it was also performed for severe cases of hydronephrosis.

Tc-99m DTPA renal scintigraphy using deconvolution analysis with six functional images of the mean time to evaluate acute pyelonephritis.

In 38 children with proved P-fimbriated Escherichia coli acute pyelonephritis, Tc-99m DTPA dynamic renal scintigraphy in the zoom mode using deconvolution analysis was performed, and the results were compared with those of Tc-99m DMSA scans. From the dynamic study, six functional images of the mean time were generated. Each functional image was analyzed separately to search for focal areas of increased mean time within the kidney contour, especially over the kidney parenchyma.

Detection of diffuse skeletal lesions by monitoring the kinetics of labeled phosphonate.

A method of detecting of diffuse skeletal involvement in patients with metastatic tumors or with metabolic diseases is presented. The study consisted of 31 patients without bone disease and of 26 selected patients with diffuse skeletal involvement. The kinetics of 99mTc-dicarboxypropane diphosphonate (DPD) were calculated by monitoring the plasma and urine concentrations up to 5 hours after administration.
