Clinical and laboratory features were analyzed in 277 patients with 279 episodes of E. coli bacteremia, treated at the University Hospital of Infectious Diseases "Dr Fran Mihaljević"c, Zagreb between 1980 and 1989. Patients ranged in age from 4 days to 91 years.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA comparison of a modification of the spirit burn method and one based on the Fortner principle was carried out on 3474 faecal samples from patients with diarrhoea. Of the 96 isolates of Campylobacter, 47 showed equal abundance of growth, regardless of the method used. By using the spirit burn method, however, growth of 33 isolates was significantly increased, and 18 out of those 33 isolates grew only in the spirit burn method atmosphere.

Of 51 cases of bacteremia due to GABHS seen over the past 15 years, 15 (29%) have been registered since 1987.
