The effect of the selective μ-opioid receptor agonist endomorphin-1 in reperfusion injury in male Wistar rats was studied in vivo and in vitro. The in vivo experiment included coronary artery occlusion (45 min) and reperfusion (120 min); in in vitro experiments, 45-min global ischemia of the isolated rat heart was followed by 30-min reperfusion. Endomorphin-1 was administered intravenously 5 min before in vivo reperfusion (at a dose 50 μg/kg) or added to the perfusion solution at the onset of reperfusion of the isolated heart (in a concentration of 152 nmol/liter).

Here, we present the new vascular effects of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA). PDT with 5-ALA induces a leakage of both the meningeal and cerebral blood vessels. The extravasation of photo-excited 5-ALA from the leaky blood vessels into the meninges causes photo-damage of the meningeal lymphatics (MLVs) leading to a dramatic reducing the MLV network and brain's drainage.

The purpose of the present study was to prepare pectin hydrogels with immobilized callus cells and to identify the effect of cell immobilization on the textural, rheological, and swelling properties; loading; and releasing of grape seed extract (GSE) from the hydrogels. Hypoxia (20 min) and reoxygenation (30 min) were simulated on isolated rat cardiomyocytes to evaluate the cytoprotective effect of selective δ-opioid receptor agonist deltorphin II, opioid receptor antagonist naloxone methiodide, μ-opioid receptor antagonist CTAP, κ-opioid receptor antagonist nor-binaltorphimine, ε-opioid receptor antagonist BNTX, and δ-opioid receptors naltriben. Deltorphin II was administered 5 min before reoxygenation, antagonists were administered 10 min before reoxygenation. The cytoprotective effect of deltorphin II was assessed by the number of cardiomyocytes survived after hypoxia/reoxygenation, as well as by the lactate dehydrogenase content in the incubation medium.
