Myxoquaterines represent a recently discovered class of natural products with intriguing biological properties. They were isolated from Pendulasporacea albinea MSr 11954 and display a unique structure combining heterocyclic (pyrrole, oxazoline), hexaene, and 2-amino-1,3-diol subunits. We have now synthesized the first example of a myxoquaterine natural product, myxoquaterine-450, in a highly convergent fashion, in which the sensitive hexaene unit was established in the final stages of the synthesis (16 linear steps starting from l-serine).

Background: Recent advancements in anomaly detection have paved the way for novel radiological reading assistance tools that support the identification of findings, aimed at saving time. The clinical adoption of such applications requires a low rate of false positives while maintaining high sensitivity.

Purpose: In light of recent interest and development in multi pathology identification, we present a novel method, based on a recent contrastive self-supervised approach, for multiple chest-related abnormality identification including low lung density area ("LLDA"), consolidation ("CONS"), nodules ("NOD") and interstitial pattern ("IP").

Objective: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death. The percentage of people who have never smoked with lung cancer has risen recently, but alternative risk factors require further study. Our goal was to determine the influence of air quality on incidence of lung cancer in people who have smoked or never smoked.

The octanol-water distribution coefficient (logP), used as a measure of lipophilicity, plays a major role in the drug design and discovery processes. While average logP values remain unchanged in approved oral drugs since 1983, current medicinal chemistry trends towards increasingly lipophilic compounds that require adapted analytical workflows and drug delivery systems. Solubility enhancers like cyclodextrins (CDs), especially 2-hydroxypropyl-β-CD (2-HP-β-CD), have been studied in vitro and in vivo investigating their ADMET (adsorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity)-related properties.

In this short review (written to celebrate David Campbell's 80th birthday), we provide a theoretical description of quantum transport in nanoscale systems in the presence of single-electron excitations generated by Lorentzian voltage drives, termed Levitons. These excitations allow us to realize the analog of quantum optics experiments using electrons instead of photons. Importantly, electrons in condensed matter systems are strongly affected by the presence of different types of non-trivial correlations, with no counterpart in the domain of photonic quantum optics.

Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related death in Michigan. Most patients are diagnosed at advanced stages of the disease. There is a need to detect clusters of lung cancer incidence over time, to generate new hypotheses about causation and identify high-risk areas for screening and treatment.

Background: Pulmonary resection can present technical challenges for surgeons due to the dissection and closure of tissues, which vary in thickness and elastic properties, occasionally leading to prolonged air leaks. Staple line reinforcements (SLRs) are widely utilized tools for fortifying the stability and integrity of closures in thoracic surgery, however, materials available and ease of use for both surgeon and scrub nurse have been suboptimal. A novel "click-and-go" device pre-loaded with bioabsorbable buttress material was recently developed, the Echelon Endopath SLR (ESLR, Ethicon, Inc.

Even with the aid of the available methods, the configurational assignment of natural products can be a challenging task that is prone to errors, and it sometimes needs to be corrected after total synthesis or single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Herein, the absolute configuration of amidochelocardin is revised using a combination of XRD, NMR spectroscopy, experimental ECD spectra, and time-dependent density-functional theory (TDDFT)-ECD calculations. As amidochelocardin was obtained via biosynthetic engineering of chelocardin, we propose the same absolute configuration for chelocardin based on the similar biosynthetic origins of the two compounds and result of TDDFT-ECD calculations.

Background: Opioid prescribing guidelines have significantly decreased overprescribing and post-discharge use after cardiac surgery; however, limited recommendations exist for general thoracic surgery patients, a similarly high-risk population. We examined opioid prescribing and patient-reported use to develop evidence-based, opioid prescribing guidelines after lung cancer resection.

Methods: This prospective, statewide, quality improvement study was conducted between January 2020 to March 2021 and included patients undergoing surgical resection of a primary lung cancer across 11 institutions.

Purpose: As screening chest computed tomography for patients at high risk for cancer has become more widely accepted, increasing numbers of patients with early-stage small cell lung cancer (SCLC) are being diagnosed. Although surgery is an accepted option for patients with early-stage SCLC, for patients who decline or cannot undergo surgery, stereotactic body radiation treatment (SBRT) is an alternative. Although prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) improves survival in patients with limited-stage SCLC, PCI for early-stage SCLC (stage T1-T2) has not been explored.

Myxobacteria have proven to be a rich source of natural products, but their biosynthetic potential seems to be underexplored given the high number of biosynthetic gene clusters present in their genomes. In this study, a truncated ajudazol biosynthetic gene cluster in sp. SBCb004 was identified using mutagenesis and metabolomics analyses and a set of novel ajudazols (named ajudazols C-J, -, respectively) were detected and subsequently isolated.

During our search for novel myxobacterial natural products, we discovered the thiamyxins: thiazole- and thiazoline-rich non-ribosomal peptide-polyketide hybrids with potent antiviral activity. We isolated four congeners of this unprecedented natural product family with the non-cyclized thiamyxin D fused to a glycerol unit at the C-terminus. Alongside their structure elucidation, we present a concise biosynthesis model based on biosynthetic gene cluster analysis and isotopically labelled precursor feeding.

Vitamin K is an essential, lipid soluble vitamin that plays an important role in the human blood coagulation cascade as well as in the life cycle of bacteria and plants. In this study, we report the isolation and structure elucidation of unprecedented polyhydroxylated menaquinone variants named myxoquinones that are produced by myxobacteria and structurally belong to the Vitamin K family. We analyze the occurrence of myxoquinones across an LC-MS data collection from myxobacterial extracts and shed light on the distribution of myxoquinone-type biosynthetic gene clusters among publicly available myxobacterial genomes.

We consider the non-equilibrium zero frequency noise generated by a temperature gradient applied on a device composed of two normal leads separated by a quantum dot. We recall the derivation of the scattering theory for non-equilibrium noise for a general situation where both a bias voltage and a temperature gradient can coexist and put it in a historical perspective. We provide a microscopic derivation of zero frequency noise through a quantum dot based on a tight binding Hamiltonian, which constitutes a generalization of the seminal result obtained for the current in the context of the Keldysh formalism.

A metabolome-guided screening approach in the novel myxobacterium Corallococcus sp. MCy9072 resulted in the isolation of the unprecedented natural product myxofacycline A, which features a rare isoxazole substructure. Identification and genomic investigation of additional producers alongside targeted gene inactivation experiments and heterologous expression of the corresponding biosynthetic gene cluster in the host Myxococcus xanthus DK1622 confirmed a noncanonical megaenzyme complex as the biosynthetic origin of myxofacycline A.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to create a deep learning algorithm to infer the benign or malignant nature of breast nodules using two-dimensional B-mode ultrasound data initially marked as BI-RADS 3 and 4.

Materials And Methods: An ensemble of mask region-based convolutional neural networks (Mask-RCNN) combining nodule segmentation and classification were trained to explicitly localize the nodule and generate a probability of the nodule to be malignant on two-dimensional B-mode ultrasound. These probabilities were aggregated at test time to produce final results.

We consider a non-chiral Luttinger liquid in the presence of a backscattering Hamiltonian which has an extended range. Right/left moving fermions at a given location can thus be converted as left/right moving fermions at a different location, within a specific range. We perform a momentum shell renormalization group treatment which gives the evolution of the relative degrees of freedom of this Hamiltonian contribution under the renormalization flow, and we study a few realistic examples of this extended backscattering Hamiltonian.
