One of benthic organisms exposed to contact with mercury in the southern Baltic is alien species of clam: Dreissena polymorpha. As this organism is increasingly dynamic in various regions of the world including the southern Baltic region, it is reasonable to ask whether it tolerates elevated concentrations of xenobiotics? Does it effectively eliminate Hg? The study determined the effects of biometric parameters and water temperature on the rate of accumulation and efficiency of eliminating Hg from body. Investigations focused on the shell which represents poorly-recognized role in the process of Hg distribution in clams.

Current data have proved a two-dose vaccination schedule against SARS-CoV-2 to be effective among dialyzed patients. There are limited data on the longevity and modulating factors of humoral response after vaccination.

A sample of 97 boys, aged 11-12 years, practising soccer represented two groups: A - high performance level and B - lower performance level. Participants completed a state and trait anxiety inventory and performed selected psychomotor tests.

As the research shows, bariatric patients tend to neglect their strive for healthy lifestyle, even in the presence of the pandemic.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFOwing to the growing volumes of ash and sewage sludge waste, there is a requirement for theoretical and practical research into the use of these wastes as a source of nutrients. However, there are relatively few studies on the transfer of macronutrients in soil-plant systems amended with ash-sewage sludge mixtures under field conditions. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of bituminous coal ash (AC), biomass ash (AB), and municipal sewage sludge (MSS) on the quantity and quality of a grass-legume mixture.

The posterior thoracic wall, an area drained by the azygos venous system, is a common site for surgical intervention. Since the venous part of the cardiovascular system is subject to most common variation, abnormalities in the azygos venous system are often reported. Some of the anatomical variants have significant clinical implications for computed tomography image assessment and mediastinal surgery.

The aim of the study was to examine the influence of levothyroxine on the proliferative activity of the thyroid follicular cells.
Material And Methods: Cytological material was obtained from 32 euthyroid females, aged 34-69 years, by USG-guided Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB), before and after 6 months treatment with levothyroxine.
Sialic acid (SA) is responsible for the composition of different isoforms of transferrin and is reported to be a marker of microvascular complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Therefore, we explored the serum concentration of SA, and the less sialylated isoforms of transferrin, termed carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (CDT), in relation to the presence of microvascular complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus. We studied 21 patients with type 2 diabetes with microangiopathy and 22 patients without complications who were hospitalized at a diabetic clinic.

The aim of the study was to estimate clinical status of the investigated group and evaluate biochemical features based on positive titers of humoral immunological markers in the development of diabetes mellitus. We studied 31 non obese, newly diagnosed patients (mean BMI < 26 kg/m2), mean age--41.

A total of 14-inpatients (seven with micro and seven with macroalbuminuria) were enrolled and were treated first intramuscularly with a 60 mg vial of sulodexide/day for 10 days, and then orally with 25 mg capsules twice a day for 21 days. UAER was estimated before starting treatment (T0), after the i.
