Of the 49 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the buccal mucosa referred to the Rotterdam Radio-Therapeutic Institute (RRTI) and Universital Hospital Dijkzigt Rotterdam (AZD) during 1970-1984, 31 patients had an advanced stage of disease, 21 patients had clinical evidence of lymph node metastasis. Forty patients were treated with curative intention. Treatment modalities were: radiation therapy, preoperative radiation followed by surgery, and primary surgery.

The effects of a high frequency electro-magnetic field, generated by a Diapulse instrument (Diapulse Corporation of America) on rat liver has been investigated. Ultrastructural aspects are described and quantitative determinations of mitochondrial enzymes MAO, CyT-Ox, MDH, SDH and ATP-ase recorded. The standard therapeutic parameters generally used with the Diapulse instrument in medicine were found to induce a stimulation effect at the investigated level, without apparent degenerative modifications.

The distribution of cytochrome b5 reductase in rat liver microsomes purified by density gradient centrifugation was studied using anti-cytochrome b5 reductase/anti-ferritin hybrid antibodies labeled with ferritin. Electron micrographs show that the outer surface and the polar cap of tangential sections of essentially all vesicles derived from endoplasmic reticulum are specifically marked with a few ferritin grains which are not localized in large patches but arranged randomly. This finding was correlated with morphometrical and biochemical measurements.
