Silicon nitride is a low-loss photonic integrated circuit (PIC) platform. However, silicon nitride also shows small nonlinear optical properties and is dielectric, which makes the implementation of programmability challenging. Typically, the thermo-optic effect is used for this, but modulators based on this effect are often slow and cross talk-limited.

Based on classical karyotyping, structural genome variations (SVs) have generally been considered to be either "simple" (with one or two breakpoints) or "complex" (with more than two breakpoints). Studying the breakpoints of SVs at nucleotide resolution revealed additional, subtle structural variations, such that even "simple" SVs turned out to be "complex." Genome-wide sequencing methods, such as fosmid and paired-end mapping, short-read and long-read whole genome sequencing, and single-molecule optical mapping, also indicated that the number of SVs per individual was considerably larger than expected from karyotyping and high-resolution chromosomal array-based studies.

Here, we use the combined analysis of state-of-the-art activity logger data across three swift species, the common, pallid and alpine swifts, to quantify flight height and activity in responses to moonlight-driven crepuscular and nocturnal light conditions. Our results show a significant response in flight heights to moonlight illuminance for common and pallid swifts, i.

This enables us, for example, to study their dissipation mechanisms, which are strongly dependent on the stress. After release of the resonators from the substrate, their static displacement is extracted using scanning electron microscopy.

Here we demonstrate the hybrid integration of AlN on silicon nitride (SiN) photonic chips. Composite microrings are fabricated by reactive DC sputtering of c-axis oriented AlN on top of pre-patterned SiN.

Visualizing eigenmodes is crucial in understanding the behavior of state-of-the-art micromechanical devices. We demonstrate a method to optically map multiple modes of mechanical structures simultaneously. The fast and robust method, based on a modified phase-lock loop, is demonstrated on a silicon nitride membrane and shown to outperform three alternative approaches.

Chronic graft failure is often accompanied by transplant vasculopathy, the formation of de novo atherosclerosis in the transplanted kidney. Therefore, we determined whether the 10-year Framingham risk score (FRS), an established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease prediction module, is associated with chronic graft failure in RTR.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLipoprotein-proteoglycan binding is an early key event in atherosclerotic lesion formation and thus conceivably could play a major role in vasculopathy-driven chronic graft failure and cardiovascular mortality in renal transplant recipients. The present study investigated whether lipoprotein-proteoglycan binding susceptibility (LPBS) of apoB-containing lipoproteins and levels of the classical atherosclerosis biomarker LDL-C were associated with cardiovascular mortality (n = 130) and graft failure (n = 73) in 589 renal transplant recipients who were followed up from at least 1 year after transplantation for 9.5 years.

Bisulfite pyrosequencing of repetitive DNA families revealed comparable blood DNA methylation levels between classical (18 WRN-mutant) or atypical WS (3 LMNA-mutant and 3 POLD1-mutant) patients and age- and sex-matched controls. WS was not associated with either age-related accelerated global losses of ALU, LINE1, and α-satellite DNA methylations or gains of rDNA methylation.
