A new species of Ctenocheles Kishinouye, 1926 (Decapoda, Axiidea, Ctenochelidae) from China.

A new species of ghost shrimp, Ctenocheles sinicus, is described based on specimens recently collected from Taiwan Strait, the East China Sea, at a depth of 50 m. The new species is characterized by: the dorsally unarmed rostrum attaining one-third the length of the eyestalks; the rounded suborbital angle of the carapace; maxillipeds 2 and 3 each with a short exopod; the merus and ischium of pereopod 1 being unarmed along the lower margin; the major cheliped with fingers twice as long as the palm; the ischium of pereopod 2 armed with prominent spiniform setae along the lower margin; and the rounded anterodistal angle of uropodal exopod. The morphological differences between the new species and other congeners are discussed and a key to the species of Ctenocheles Kishinouye, 1926 is provided.

Microbial Ecology of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) Hatcheries: Impacts of the Built Environment on Fish Mucosal Microbiota.

Successful rearing of fish in hatcheries is critical for conservation, recreational fishing, commercial fishing through wild stock enhancements, and aquaculture production. Flowthrough (FT) hatcheries require more water than recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), which enable up to 99% of their water to be recycled, thus significantly reducing environmental impacts. Here, we evaluated the biological and physical microbiome interactions of three Atlantic salmon hatcheries (RAS  = 2, FT  = 1).

Systematic characterization of the cancer microbiome provides the opportunity to develop techniques that exploit non-human, microorganism-derived molecules in the diagnosis of a major human disease. Following recent demonstrations that some types of cancer show substantial microbial contributions, we re-examined whole-genome and whole-transcriptome sequencing studies in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) of 33 types of cancer from treatment-naive patients (a total of 18,116 samples) for microbial reads, and found unique microbial signatures in tissue and blood within and between most major types of cancer. These TCGA blood signatures remained predictive when applied to patients with stage Ia-IIc cancer and cancers lacking any genomic alterations currently measured on two commercial-grade cell-free tumour DNA platforms, despite the use of very stringent decontamination analyses that discarded up to 92.

A miRNA Host Response Signature Accurately Discriminates Acute Respiratory Infection Etiologies.

Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) are the leading indication for antibacterial prescriptions despite a viral etiology in the majority of cases. The lack of available diagnostics to discriminate viral and bacterial etiologies contributes to this discordance. Background: Whole mitochondrial DNA is being increasingly utilized for comparative genomic and phylogenetic studies at deep and shallow evolutionary levels for a range of taxonomic groups. Although mitogenome sequences are deposited at an increasing rate into public databases, their taxonomic representation is unequal across major taxonomic groups. In the case of decapod crustaceans, several infraorders, including Axiidea (ghost shrimps, sponge shrimps, and mud lobsters) and Caridea (true shrimps) are still under-represented, limiting comprehensive phylogenetic studies that utilize mitogenomic information.

Synonymy and problematic species of Spence Bate, 1888, with descriptions of new species (Crustacea: Decapoda: Axiidea: Axiidae).

The genus Eiconaxius Spence Bate, 1888, is rediagnosed. Eiconaxiopsididae Sakai, 2011 and its type genus,                         Eiconaxiopsis Sakai, 2011 are shown to be based largely on an error-the dactylus of pereopod 3 of the type species, Eiconaxiopsis heinrichi Sakai, 2011 is not as was originally illustrated but similar to all other species of Eiconaxius. The synonymies of Eiconaxiopsis with Eiconaxius and Eiconaxiopsididae with Axiidae are confirmed.

Halicarcinus is restricted to seven valid species; Rhynchoplax Stimpson, 1858, since 1980 synonymised with Halicarcinus, is now recognised with four species; four species are added to Micas Ng & Richer de Forges, 1996 (making five in total); and four new genera are erected: Culexisoma n. gen.

Epitheliotropic intestinal T-cell lymphoma (EITL, also known as type II enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma) is an aggressive intestinal disease with poor prognosis and its molecular alterations have not been comprehensively characterized. We aimed to identify actionable easy-to-screen alterations that would allow better diagnostics and/or treatment of this deadly disease. By performing whole-exome sequencing of four EITL tumor-normal pairs, followed by amplicon deep sequencing of 42 tumor samples, frequent alterations of the JAK-STAT and G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling pathways were discovered in a large portion of samples.

Breast fibroepithelial tumors comprise a heterogeneous spectrum of pathological entities, from benign fibroadenomas to malignant phyllodes tumors. Although MED12 mutations have been frequently found in fibroadenomas and phyllodes tumors, the landscapes of genetic alterations across the fibroepithelial tumor spectrum remain unclear. Here, by performing exome sequencing of 22 phyllodes tumors followed by targeted sequencing of 100 breast fibroepithelial tumors, we observed three distinct somatic mutation patterns.

Background: Carcinoma of the oral tongue (OTSCC) is the most common malignancy of the oral cavity, characterized by frequent recurrence and poor survival. The last three decades has witnessed a change in the OTSCC epidemiological profile, with increasing incidence in younger patients, females and never-smokers. Here, we sought to characterize the OTSCC genomic landscape and to determine factors that may delineate the genetic basis of this disease, inform prognosis and identify targets for therapeutic intervention.

Ctenocheloides boucheti, the third species in this widespread but rare genus, is described from Papua New Guinea.
