Thyroid Cartilage Metastases from Prostate Cancer on 18F PSMA PET CT: A Case Series.

Prostate cancer metastases to the thyroid cartilage is an extremely rare phenomenon. We report three cases of advanced prostate carcinoma with metastases to the thyroid cartilage identified on 18F prostate-specific membrane antigen-1007 (PSMA-1007) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT). The pathophysiology and possibility for under-reporting are also discussed.

A Rare Case of Biliary Atresia with Biliary Ascites on a (Hepatobiliary Iminodiacetic Acid) HIDA Scan.

Biliary atresia is one of the most challenging conditions in pediatric surgery even when it is the only finding. Here we present a rare case of biliary atresia complicated with biliary ascites due to ductal perforation identified on a hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid (HIDA) scan.

Endovascular management of a congenital hepatic arterioportal malformation in a low resource setting.

Background: Arterioportal malformations, a rare type of vascular malformation, have significant associated morbidity and mortality. Management requires a carefully thought out approach by a multidisciplinary team. Low resource settings have an added challenge of limited treatment options and consumables.

Unusual presentation of hepatocellular carcinoma: Case report and review of literature.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary cancer of the liver and a major cause of mortality globally. Atypical presentation of HCC can present a diagnostic challenge. We, therefore, present a rare case of hepatocellular carcinoma fungating through the anterior abdominal wall with concomitant lung and brain metastases in a young patient with non-cirrhotic liver but positive chronic hepatitis B serology.

The surgical relevance of the anatomic position of the extraosseous mental nerve in a Kenyan population.

Introduction: Precise location of the mental nerve is important in implant surgery, administration of mental nerve block anaesthesia, and for osteotomy procedures. The position is known to show inter-population differences but data from sub-saharan region is scarce.

Methods: The point of emergence of 64 nerves was studied and data analyzed with Microsoft Excel 2010 and differences in side means compared using the paired one tailed student's t test.

Branching pattern of the extraosseous mental nerve in a kenyan population.

Knowledge of the branching pattern of the mental nerve is an important consideration during placement of tooth implants and reconstructive plates. It is known to display population variations and data for the same is scarce form the sub-Saharan region. With the recent increase in surgical interventions in the mandibular region in Kenya, a detailed description of mental nerve is warranted.

Young professionals for health development: the Kenyan experience in combating non-communicable diseases.

Young individuals (below 35 years) comprise an estimated 60% of the global population. Not only are these individuals currently experiencing chronic, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), either living with or at risk for these conditions, but will also experience the long-term repercussions of the current NCD policy implementations. It is thus imperative that they meaningfully contribute to the global discourse and responses for NCDs at the local level.
