Objectives: To systematically report and document Trigeminal Trophic Syndrome (TTS), characterize its clinical presentation, diagnostic tests performed, outline management strategies, outcomes; and highlight the role of otolaryngologists in the tissue diagnosis of this rare syndrome.

Data Sources: PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Cochrane databases.

Review Methods: PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were systematically reviewed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to identify all cases of TTS published with an English translation from inception to December 2020.

Background: Medial epicondylitis and lateral epicondylitis are among the most common elbow pathologies affecting people aged between 40 and 50 years. Although epicondylitis is often a self-limiting condition that improves with conservative treatment, the condition can be difficult to eradicate. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and ultrasound-guided percutaneous tenotomy (Tenex) for the treatment of medial or lateral epicondylitis.

Background: In the currently published literature, a higher risk for developing arthrofibrosis after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has been reported for female patients, adolescents, early surgery or concomitant procedures, and the use of a patellar tendon autograft. There is a lack of evidence regarding other graft choices or factors.

Hypothesis: Multiple risk factors will play a significant role in the development of arthrofibrosis after ACL reconstruction.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the effectiveness of extended olecranon plates compared to standard plates in fixing small olecranon fractures, which are challenging to secure due to their anatomy.* -
  • Using 16 matched pairs of human cadaver elbows, the research involved performing specific osteotomies and assigning each elbow to either a standard-length or extended-length plate for fracture fixation.* -
  • Results indicated no significant differences in fixation strength between standard and extended plates for simple transverse fractures, suggesting standard plates are adequate for such cases, though caution is advised for more complex fracture types.*

Immobilization is often needed for the treatment of wrist and hand injuries. The current best method of immobilization for several types of injuries has yet to be elucidated with little being reported on the functional differences of each type of immobilization.  The purpose of this study is to compare the functional outcome between healthy young volunteers with a 24-hour short arm cast (SAC) versus thumb spica cast (TSC) immobilization.
