Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) present unique properties, such as the induced localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) provoked under illumination with a proper wavelength, allowing these nanomaterials to be applied in fields such as catalysis and biomedicine. The study of AgNPs is also highly relevant from the environmental pollution viewpoint due to their high production and application in commercial products. Consequently, AgNPs reach aquatic environments and can be plasmonically stimulated under natural light conditions.

The existing literature provides limited insights into the dynamics of phytoplankton communities and the spatial heterogeneity of physicochemical parameters in multisystem cascade reservoirs (interconnected reservoirs derived from different rivers). The existing studies are concentrated on cascade reservoirs (interconnected reservoirs derived from the same river). To address this knowledge gap, the aims of the present study were as follows: (1) investigate the spatial heterogeneity, within and between reservoirs, of geochemical parameters associated with the eutrophication process, considering total phosphorus, chlorophyll-a, pheophytin, and metals (chromium, copper, nickel, lead, zinc, iron, and manganese); (2) evaluate sediment quality at the designated locations; (3) assess differences in the richness and concentration of sedimentary photopigments between the reservoirs.

An efficient and scalable route to -butyl 3-oxo-3-spiro[benzofuran-2,4'-piperidine]-1'-carboxylate, a central prochiral intermediate in the synthesis of SHP2 inhibitor (), was achieved. Preparation of the title compound from readily available 2-fluorobenzaldehyde included formation of a modified Katritzky benzotriazole hemiaminal, which, upon deprotonation by -butyllithium, participated in umpolung reactivity via 1,2-addition to -butyl 4-oxopiperidine-1-carboxylate (-Boc-4-piperidone). Most notably, this reaction was developed as a robust plug-flow process that could be executed on multiple kilograms without the need for pilot-scale reaction vessels operating at low cryogenic temperatures.

Sediment cores were used to establish past environmental impacts associated with eutrophication, erosion and metal contamination in the subtropical Atibainha reservoir (São Paulo State, Brazil). We hypothesize that: (1) the levels of nutrients, determined by a spectrophotometric method, reflect the contributions of these elements over time and (2) changes in sedimentation rates, determined by Pb geochronology, and metal flows, determined by ICP-AEOS, are related to anthropic activities. Stratigraphic changes in the analysed variables were used to divide the sediment cores into three intervals, according to PCA and cluster analysis (Euclidian distances, Ward's method).
