[OSTEOPOROSIS IN MEN: CURRENT ISSUES].

Analysis of outpatients male patients aimed at Bone Density Measurement (Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) during 2013. The study shows that men are sent to the examination for osteoporosis nearly 20 times less than women, while in men older than 60 years the decrease in bone mineral density was observed in more than 85% of cases. The identified violations of mineralization of bone tissue in men in different age periods and the main reason for referral for examination were analyzed.

[Frequency of some diseases and conditions in geriatric patients with coronary heart disease and various genotypes of transcription factor 7-like 2 protein].

In 2009-2010, 98 patients diagnosed with the coronary heart disease, but without the expressed metabolic violations, decompensated conditions and diseases were surveyed. Patients of 60-90 years were divided by age into two groups: younger than 75 years--47 people; 75 years and older--51; there were 41 women and 57 men; the ratio between women and men was 1:1.4; average age was 76.

[Genotype and allele frequencies of UCP and PPAR gene families in residents of besieged Leningrad and in the control group].

Genotype and allele frequencies of uncoupling proteins 2 and 3 genes (UCP2 and UCP3) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors genes (PPARA, PPARD and PPARG) were studied in 206 residents of the siege and in 139 individuals of more than 69 years old (control group). Studied polymorphisms included UCP2 (Ala55Val), UCP3 (C-55T), PPARA (G/C), PPARD (+294T/C), and PPARG (Pro12Ala). The G allele and the G/G genotype (PPARA) were overrepresented in the group of survivors and C/C (UCP3) genotype prevailed in the women of besieged Leningrad compared to relevant control groups of the persons of the same age who did not suffered hungry disaster.

Interpersonal distances, coping strategies and psychopathology in patients with depression and schizophrenia.

Aim: To explore (1) intergroup differences in comfortable interpersonal distances (CIDs) and the use of coping strategies; (2) the association of these parameters with individual symptomatology; and (3) the interplay between CIDs and coping styles in patients with depression and schizophrenia.

Methods: The parameters of interest were assessed by means of standardized questionnaires: CID and Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations. Psychopathology was evaluated with the Beck Depression Inventory and Positive and Negative Syndromes Scale.

[Sorption of lysine by molecularly imprinted carboxyl sorbents].

Tuned (molecularly imprinted) and nontuned, with respect to lysine amino acid, carboxylic heteroreticular sorbents based on methacrylic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, were synthesized. Study of sorption of lysine within wide pH range and ionic strength indicated significant dissimilarities in amino acid sorption by tuned sorbents, which were expressed as an increase in the contribution of nonionic interaction, and resulted in a decrease in the ionic strength effect on the sorption capacity, as well as an increase in amino acid sorption selectivity.

[Community-acquired pneumonia with atypical (mycoplasmic and chlamydial) infection].

[Luminescent indicators in various parts of wheat leaves in ontogenesis].

A comparative study of slow fluorescence induction, fluorescence spectra, thermoluminescence, photosynthetic activity and chlorophyll content in ontogenesis of wheat seedlings (Triticum aestivum L, cv. Yubileinayd) grown in the laboratory conditions was carried out. It was shown that (FM-FT)/FT values of slow fluorescence induction increased with the age of leaf part, reached a maximum (for 2-week-old seedlings), and then decreased.

[Possibilities of Surface ECG Mapping in Diagnosis of Ischemic Heart Disease in Patients With Aortic Stenosis].

Method of surface ECG mapping and graded bicycle exercise test were used for noninvasive detection of coronary artery involvement in 24 patients with aortic stenosis. The actual presence of coronary artery disease was verified by coronary angiography. Isointegral ST-segment maps were constructed and analyzed.

[Antifungal activity of aqueous extracts from the leaf of cowparsnip and comfrey].

We found that extracts from the leaves of medicinal comfrey and cowparsnip strongly inhibit the germination of Erysiphe graminis conidia and uredospores of Puccinia graminis. Spraying wheat seedlings with these extracts, in contrast to the irrigation of soil, markedly diminished infection in plants with powdery mildew. Antifungal activity in vitro and protective activity (when plants were sprayed) correlated with the level of phenolic compounds in these extracts.

[Changes in induction of slow fluorescence in leaves of maple located near urban highways].

The slow fluorescence induction parameter FM/FT was measured for green leaves from maple trees grown in the park, depending on the distance (5-65 m) between the tree and the highway cross. We concluded that the decrease in the value of FM/FT for trees grown in the vicinity of the road cross was caused by exhaust gases.

[Characteristics of the leaf photosynthetic machinery in broad bean grown in zinc chloride aqueous solutions].

The structural and functional characteristics of bean leaves (the content of chlorophyll, the rate of oxygen production, the slow fluorescence induction, and light-induced changes in the EPR signal I from oxidized reaction centers P700+) were investigated to obtain insight into the mechanism of influence of zinc chloride on the photosynthetic apparatus. Seedlings were grown on hydroponic medium containing ZnCl2 at concentrations from 10(-7) to 10(-3) M. At low concentrations of ZnCl2, a decrease in the content of chlorophyll per one unit of leaf mass was observed, while the rate of oxygen production per chlorophyll was increased.

[Enhancing cultural sensitivity of psychiatrists emigrating from Russia to Israel].

The importance of understanding the local culture and enhancing cultural sensitivity became evident during supervision of immigrant psychiatrists from the former Soviet Union. The aim of the present study was to describe enhancement of this cultural sensitivity in the supervision of 2 immigrant psychiatrists. In the first, understanding the patient's cultural world helped the immigrant psychiatrist form the therapeutic alliance.

[Ventricular late potentials and ventricular arrhythmias in noncoronarogenic myocardial diseases].

Hemodynamic parameters and survival were studied in 48 patients with noncoronarogenic myocardial diseases (NCMD). The examination included high-resolution electrocardiography and Holter monitoring of cardiac rhythm. Deterioration of pump capacity of the heart was associated with high-grade arrhythmias (4B and higher) while ventricular late potentials were more characteristic for patients with severe hemodynamic disorders and, in particular, with dilated cardiomyopathy.

[The epidemiological-epizootiological subdivision of the nosogeographic range of trichinosis].

The prevalence of trichinosis was analyzed among human beings and animals in Moscow Province over 50 years (1946-1996). A total of 7022 domestic, synanthropic, and wild carnivorous animals were incompletely helminthologically dissected. Enzyme immunoassay revealed diagnostic Trichinella antigen antibody titers in 45.

[Clinico-morphological features and mechanisms of arrhythmogenesis in idiopathic prolonged QT interval syndrome].

The paper deals with the idiopathic prolonged QT interval syndrome, a rare and highly malignant cardiac disease, which is characterized by ECG changes, episodes of polymorphic torsades de pointes ventricular tachycardia, and high family history mortality due to sudden cardiac arrest. The causes and optimum treatments of the disease remain less studied. The authors propose noninvasive techniques for investigating the functional characteristics of the cardiac conduction system, whose use is highly important both for the understanding of the nature of the available changes and the diagnosis of asymptomatic types of the disease course.
