In view of the significant difficulties arising in controlling the operation of the rapid iron removal filters on the basis of full exhaustion of their clarifying resource at every calculation stage (filter run), it is suggested to realize a simple control algorithm, which assumes an equal duration of filter runs during the entire service life of one filtering material change. Since the efficiency of physicochemical iron removal depends significantly on the specified duration, in order to establish its optimal value in every given case it is necessary to perform a special technical and economic analysis with a detailed consideration of the composition and degree of contamination of natural water. In the working conditions considered above, which are typical for physicochemical iron removal from deep groundwater in Ukraine, such a value was 600 conventional units, which corresponds to 48 h.

Article Synopsis
  • Surgeons using traditional 2D visualization in minimally invasive surgery experience difficulties with depth perception, leading to increased mental load and longer learning curves.
  • A mixed reality simulator was created to compare the performance of participants using 2D versus autostereoscopic 3D visualization in a laparoscopic task.
  • Results indicated that 3D visualization improved task completion time, reduced the total distance traveled, and decreased errors compared to 2D, highlighting the benefits of 3D displays in surgical training, though the study suggests incorporating haptic feedback for future research.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates morphological and cytoembryological changes in transgenic tomato plants modified with genes from Amaranthus and Stellaria media.
  • Some transgenic lines showed no phenotypic differences from wild types, while others exhibited issues in inflorescence, flower, and fruit development, persisting over at least six generations.
  • Abnormalities in reproductive organ development led to parthenocarpic fruits, driven by abnormal tissue formation instead of normal embryo sacs, indicating gene expression did not directly cause these malformations.

Interphase prenucleolar bodies are globular structures which accumulate in large numbers in the nucleoplasm of cultivated cells after hypotonic treatment and subsequent return to isotonic conditions; detailed studies of the role of these structures in the recovery of the nucleolus have not yet been performed. The limited mobility of interphase pronucleoli within the nucleus has been demonstrated. Exchange of the major nucleolar protein B23 between prenucleolar bodies and the surrounding nucleoplasm, rather than stable binding of this protein to the prenucleolar bodies, has been demonstrated using fluorescence recovery after photobleaching method.

The ultrasonic location technique was used to measure intima-media thickness (IMT), as well as internal systolic diameter of and linear blood velocity in the cervical arteries in people with initial hypertension. Correlation analysis elicited a temporal contingency between these parameters and daily average values of atmospheric pressure. Thus, common carotid artery IMT tended to increase on high-pressure days.

Been outlined the experience of mathematics modelling of natural phenomena for determination of the impact of individual factors and their combination on the epidemic process development. Found that 97,9% of the variation of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome index of population in the study area determine six climatic factors: the Wolf number, rainfall in November, the highest level of the river during floods, the temperature of air in October, the maximum and minimum levels of snow cover in February. As the most significant factors, contributing to the spread of the disease under study, been determine the parameters of air temperature and the height of snow.

Changes in chromatin structure at different stages of differentiation of human spermatids were studied. It was shown that, in nuclei of early spermatids, chromatin is loosely packed and its structural element is an 8-nm fiber. This "elementary" fiber is predominant at the initial stages of differentiation; in the course of maturation, it is replaced by globular elements approximately 60 nm in diameter.

The article describes the experience of emergency prevention of acute respiratory diseases among the young recruits by intramuscular injection of BICILLIN-5. This method allowed in winter 2011 to reduce the number of diseases caused by pneumococcus, staphylococcus and streptococcus significantly. Considering the polyetiology of pneumonia, acute bronchitis and acute respiratory infections, the lack of specific means of prevention against the majority of them, as well as the role of the low resistance of the organism in the military development of acute respiratory diseases, it is proposed to use antiviral drugs and immunotropic funds in addition to chemoprophylaxis and vaccination.

Vasovagal syncope and carotid sinus syndrome are common conditions in young and elderly people, respectively, mostly with benign prognosis. Nevertheless, severe or "malignant" syncopal attacks in some patients may be associated with life-threatening injury. Unfortunately, up to now almost all drug trials have failed to demonstrate any benefit in preventing syncope and interventional approach (pacemaker) may be appropriate.

In the current work, the structural organization of nuclear matrix of pericentromeric heterochromatin blocks (chromocenters) inside cultured murine fibroblasts was investigated. After 2 M NaCl extraction without DNase I treatment, chromocenters were extremely swelled, and it was impossible to detect them using conventional electron microscopy. Using immunogolding with anti-topoisomerase IIalpha antibody, we demonstrated that residual chromocenters were subdivided into numerous discrete aggregates.

We have studied structure of polymorphisms of genes of blood clotting factors II, V, VII, platelet membrane glycoprotein IIIa (GPIIIa) and enzyme methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD). In this cohort of patients most prevalent are polymorphism PLAA1/A2 of GPIIIa gene and 677T/T polymorphism of MTHFR gene. Inconsistency of existing evidence on effect of R/Q genotype of FVII gene on early development of IHD and myocardial infarction (MI) is underlined, and data on the absence of protective effect of Q allele on early development of MI are presented.

Alveolar rhabgomyosarcoma is a highly malignant, small blue cell pediatric soft tissue tumor. Identification of micrometastases in alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma is important because the poor prognosis associated with this subgroup necessitates a modified therapeutic regimen. Since the obtained lymph node specimen can be very small; rhabdomyosarcoma cells are not easily detected using conventional histological methods.
