An examination of 33 patients with internal carotid occlusion showed that this was a group of grave patients who had suffered an ischemic stroke with the lesion localization in the basin of the carotids. By using additional examination methods it has been found that it is also the homolateral external carotid which performs (along with the contralateral internal carotid) the principal compensatory function in the revascularization of the stroke-affected hemisphere. In patients with the internal carotid occlusion complicated by a stenosis of the external and an affection of the general carotids, sparing operations of applying a vascular prosthesis connecting the subclavicular and external carotid arteries were performed.

In 57 patients with stenosis or occlusion of the terminal segment of abdominal aorta the authors measured the myocardial mass and the end diastolic volume of the left ventricle before the operation and 15-20 days after it (shunting or prosthesis of bifurcation of the abdominal aorta). Prior to operation increase of the myocardial mass of the left ventricle was found in 77.2% of patients.

In 56 patients qualitative and quantitative characteristics of variants of collateral circulation in the system of occluded brachiocephalic arteries were studied. The objects of the studies were angiographic and clinical appearance of the variants of retrograde blood flow and the latter's connection with cerebral circulation. It was shown that the reversion of the blood flow from the Willis circle system was observed in 25% of patients with occlusive affections of the brachiocephalic arteries.

The modifying action of retinol and alpha-tocopherol on the stability of bilayer phosphatidyl choline membranes was studied under control of their oxidation. The membranous stability was determined by the time during which the value of the ionic conduction of the membrane in a stationary condition remained unchanged. It was shown that the stability of the membranes modified by the addition of retinol and alpha-tocopherol was not a monotonous function of the modifier concentration in the membrane (but it was achieved through maximum).

To determine the content and composition of aliphatic carbohydrates in vegetable oils and oil cakes a method including alkaline hydrolysis, partition and thin-lower chromatography, gas-liquid chromatography and chromate-mass-spectrometry was devised. The content of n-isoalkans, isoprenoids, monocycloparaffins, bi-and tricyclic naphthenes, steranes and terpenes, olifines, squalene and other polyenes in sunflower, cotton, soya oils and oilcakes was measured.
