The gravitational waves emitted by a perturbed black hole ringing down are well described by damped sinusoids, whose frequencies are those of quasinormal modes. Typically, first-order black hole perturbation theory is used to calculate these frequencies. Recently, it was shown that second-order effects are necessary in binary black hole merger simulations to model the gravitational-wave signal observed by a distant observer.

Although the impact of sulfur (S) availability on the seed yield and nutritional quality of seeds has been demonstrated, its impact coupled with nitrogen (N) availability remains poorly studied in oilseed rape. A deeper knowledge of S and N interactions on seed yield components and seed quality could improve S and N fertilization management in a sustainable manner. To address this question, our goals were to determine the effects of nine different S fertilization management strategies (i) in interaction with different levels of N fertilization and (ii) according to the timing of application (by delaying and fractionating the S inputs) on agronomic performances and components of seed yield.

Background: The purposes of this study were to evaluate the outcome of women with pure flat atypical atypia (FEA) diagnosed at vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (VABB) targeting microcalcifications and to determine whether clinical, radiological and pathologic parameters are able to predict which lesions will be upgraded to malignancy.

Materials: 2414 cases of consecutive VABB for microcalcifications using VA 8-, 10- or 11-Gauge stereotactically guided core biopsy performed between January 2005 and December 2011 from two french breast cancer centers were evaluated. Data of women with VABB-diagnosed pure FEA who underwent either excisional surgery or mammographic follow-up were analyzed.

In each of the three cases the particle produces a field that behaves as outgoing radiation in the wave zone, and therefore removes energy from the particle. In the near zone the field acts on the particle and gives rise to a self-force that prevents the particle from moving on a geodesic of the background spacetime.

The metric of a tidally distorted, nonrotating black hole is presented in a light-cone coordinate system that penetrates the event horizon and possesses a clear geometrical meaning. The metric is expressed as an expansion in powers of r/R<<1, where r is a measure of distance from the black hole and R is the local radius of curvature of the external spacetime; this is assumed to be much larger than M, the mass of the black hole. The metric is calculated up to a remainder of order (r/R)4, and it depends on a family of tidal gravitational fields which characterize the hole's local environment.

Objective: To describe the expression patterns of the various transforming growth factor-beta (Tgf-beta) isoforms, known to be involved in suture development, in the perisutural tissues of rabbits with naturally occurring craniosynostosis and relate such differential expression to the pathogenesis of premature suture fusion.

Method: Twenty-one coronal sutures were harvested from six wild-type control New Zealand White rabbits and five rabbits with familial coronal suture synostosis at 25 days of age for histomorphometric and immunohistochemical analyses. Tgf-beta isoform immunoreactivity was assessed using indirect immunoperoxidase procedures with specific antibodies.

We have analyzed the human mineralocorticoid receptor (hMR) gene in 14 families with autosomal dominant or sporadic pseudohypoaldosteronism (PHA1), a rare form of mineralocorticoid resistance characterized by neonatal renal salt wasting and failure to thrive. Six heterozygous mutations were detected. Two frameshift mutations in exon 2 (insT1354, del8bp537) and one nonsense mutation in exon 4 (C2157A, Cys645stop) generate truncated proteins due to premature stop codons.

Aldosterone effects are mediated by the MR, which possesses the same affinity for mineralocorticoids and glucocorticoids. In addition to the existence of mechanisms regulating intracellular hormone availability, we searched for human MR splice variants involved in tissue-specific corticosteroid function. We have identified a new human MR isoform, hMRDelta5,6, resulting from an alternative splicing event skipping exons 5 and 6 of the human MR gene.
