Objective: This study assesses whether longitudinal quantitative pupillometry predicts neurological deterioration after large middle cerebral artery (MCA) stroke and determines how early changes are detectable.

Methods: This prospective, single-center observational cohort study included patients with large MCA stroke admitted to Boston Medical Center's intensive care unit (2019-2024). Associations between time-to-neurologic deterioration and quantitative pupillometry, including Neurological Pupil Index (NPi), were assessed using Cox proportional hazards models with time-dependent covariates adjusted for age, sex, and Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score.

Numbers of European glass eels (Anguilla anguilla) monitored along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Europe currently serve as the main stock indicator in assessment of this critically endangered species. Spawning, however, takes place exclusively in the Sargasso Sea, several thousand kilometers away. Malignant cerebral edema occurs when brain swelling displaces and compresses vital midline structures within the first week of a large middle cerebral artery stroke. Early interventions such as hyperosmolar therapy or surgical decompression may reverse secondary injury but must be administered judiciously. The gas transport properties of thin film composite membranes (TFCMs) with selective layers of PolyActive™, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), and polyoctylmethylsiloxane (POMS) were investigated over a range of temperatures (10-34 °C; temperature increments of 2 °C) and pressures (1-65 bar abs; 38 pressure increments). The variation in the feed pressure of condensable gases CO and CH enabled the observation of peaks of permeance in dependence on the feed pressure and temperature. For PDMS and POMS, the permeance peak was reproduced at the same feed gas activity as when the feed temperature was changed.

In contrast, we, herein, report a ruthenium(II)-catalyzed Domino meta-C-H ethyl glycosylation, enabling the construction of challenging meta-C-alkyl glycosides. Two new ircinianin-type sesterterpenoids, ircinianin lactone B and ircinianin lactone C ( and ), together with five known entities from the ircinianin compound family (, -) were isolated from the marine sponge . Ircinianin lactones B and C ( and ) represent new ircinianin terpenoids with a modified oxidation pattern. Despite their labile nature, the structures could be established using a combination of spectroscopic data, including HRESIMS and 1D/2D NMR techniques, as well as computational chemistry and quantum-mechanical calculations.

Objectives: Two intravenous (IV) iron formulations, ferric derisomaltose (FDI) and iron sucrose (IS), are currently available for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in China.
