With the trend towards ageing population globally, the salutogenic model can be integrated in interventions for pre-ageing and older adults to better support healthy ageing. However, there is limited research examining the salutogenic model's pathway amongst pre-ageing and older adults. Hence, this study aims to investigate pathways of the salutogenic model amongst pre-ageing and older adults with chronic diseases.

Association of Deprescribing With Reduction in Mortality and Hospitalization: A Pragmatic Stepped-Wedge Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objectives: Deprescribing has gained awareness recently, but the clinical benefits observed from randomized trials are limited. The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a pharmacist-led 5-step team-care deprescribing intervention in nursing homes to reduce falls (fall risks and fall rates). Secondary aims include reducing mortality, number of hospitalized residents, pill burden, medication cost, and assessing the deprescribing acceptance rate.

Regional Citrate Anticoagulation for Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy - A Safe and Effective Low-Dose Protocol.

Aims: Regional citrate anticoagulation (RCA) is the preferred mode of anticoagulation for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Conventional RCA-CRRT citrate dose ranges from 3 to 5 mmol/L of blood. This study explored the effectiveness of an RCA protocol with lower citrate dose and its impact on citrate-related complications.

Impact of microbial Aetiology on mortality in severe community-acquired pneumonia.

Background: The impact of different classes of microbial pathogens on mortality in severe community-acquired pneumonia is not well elucidated. Previous studies have shown significant variation in the incidence of viral, bacterial and mixed infections, with conflicting risk associations for mortality. We aimed to determine the risk association of microbial aetiologies with hospital mortality in severe CAP, utilising a diagnostic strategy incorporating molecular testing.

Nursing home team-care deprescribing study: a stepped-wedge randomised controlled trial protocol.

Introduction: An ageing population has become an urgent concern for Asia in recent times. In nursing homes, polypharmacy has also become a compounding issue. Deprescribing practice is an evidence-based strategy to provide a better outcome in this group of patients; however, its implementation in nursing homes is often challenging, and prospective outcome data on deprescribing practice in the elderly is lacking.

Fast, cheap and out of control: a zero curation model for ontology development.

During two days at a conference focused on circulatory and respiratory health, 68 volunteers untrained in knowledge engineering participated in an experimental knowledge capture exercise. These volunteers created a shared vocabulary of 661 terms, linking these terms to each other and to a pre-existing upper ontology by adding 245 hyponym relationships and 340 synonym relationships. While ontology-building has proved to be an expensive and labor-intensive process using most existing methodologies, the rudimentary ontology constructed in this study was composed in only two days at a cost of only 3 t-shirts, 4 coffee mugs, and one chocolate moose.

CD34 and its relatives, podocalyxin and endoglycan, comprise a family of surface sialomucins expressed by hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells and vascular endothelia. Recent data suggest that they serve as either pro- or antiadhesion molecules depending on their cellular context and their post-translational modifications. In addition, their ability to function as blockers of adhesion may be further regulated by their subcellular localization in membrane microdomains via activation-dependent linkage with the actin cytoskeleton.
