Germline variants of FLI1, essential for megakaryopoiesis, are linked to bleeding disorders, platelet aggregation defects and mild thrombocytopenia. However, the mechanisms behind these abnormalities remain unclear. This study aims to elucidate the impact of FLI1 variants on human megakaryocytes and platelets.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Inherited platelet diseases are bleeding disorders characterized by either defects in platelet count or platelet function, the latter being less common and very heterogeneous. Numerous gene variants associated with abnormal receptors, granules, and signaling pathways have been reported. Despite significant advancements in our understanding, many patients still lack a precise diagnosis.

By casting the refinement process as a continuous feature sampling strategy, our neural disparity refinement network can estimate an enhanced disparity map at any output resolution. Our solution can process any disparity map produced by classical stereo algorithms, as well as those predicted by modern stereo networks or even different depth-from-images approaches, such as the COLMAP structure-from-motion pipeline.

Although the effects of pasireotide-LAR have been well characterized in clinical studies, real-practice evidence is scant, especially in the long term and within the individualization of therapy in patients with comorbidities. To provide additional insight on the individualized approach to acromegaly management, six clinical cases of complex acromegaly treated with pasireotide-LAR for more than 5 years were reported.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate whether in older patients undergoing hemodialysis the association between poor nutritional status and mortality may be independent of comorbidities and other risk factors.
Design: Retrospective longitudinal study.

Background: Prolactinoma, the most common pituitary adenoma, is usually treated with dopamine agonist (DA) therapy like cabergoline. Surgery is second-line therapy, and radiotherapy is used if surgical treatment fails or in relapsing macroprolactinoma.
Objective: This study aimed to provide economic evidence for the management of prolactinoma in Italy, using a cost-of-illness and cost-utility analysis that considered various treatment options, including cabergoline, bromocriptine, temozolomide, radiation therapy, and surgical strategies.

Estimating depth from images nowadays yields outstanding results, both in terms of in-domain accuracy and generalization. However, we identify two main challenges that remain open in this field: dealing with non-Lambertian materials and effectively processing high-resolution images. Purposely, we propose a novel dataset that includes accurate and dense ground-truth labels at high resolution, featuring scenes containing several specular and transparent surfaces.

Self-supervised learning is a promising solution, but it remains challenging to upsample depth maps without the explicit supervision of high-resolution target images. To alleviate this problem, we propose a self-supervised depth super-resolution method with contrastive multiview pre-training.

This study aimed at exploring the relationship between the number of prescriptions and fractures in older patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis. A 24-item Frailty Index (FI) based on sociodemographic, clinical and biological data was computed.

Methods: We analyzed echocardiography laboratory activities over a month (November 2022). Data were retrieved via an electronic survey based on a structured questionnaire, uploaded on the SIECVI website.

Introduction: This guideline (GL) is aimed at providing a reference for the management of prolactin (PRL)-secreting pituitary adenoma in adults. However, pregnancy is not considered.
Methods: This GL has been developed following the methods described in the Manual of the Italian National Guideline System.

Under-display imaging has recently received considerable attention in both academia and industry. As a variation of this technique, under-display ToF (UD-ToF) cameras enable depth sensing for full-screen devices. However, it also brings problems of image blurring, signal-to-noise ratio and ranging accuracy reduction.

We aimed to investigate the role of partial response and resistance to first gen-SSA in the choice of second line treatments and their outcomes.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective and multicenter study was conducted on 100 SSA-resistant acromegaly patients and treated with Pasireotide Lar (Pasi-Lar), Peg-V in monotherapy (m-Peg-V) or in combination with first gen-SSA (c-Peg-V).
Background: The treatment of endocrinopathies in haemoglobinopathies is a continually expanding research area; therefore, recommendations supporting the appropriateness of treatments are a pressing need for the medical community.
Methods: The Management Committee of SITE selected and gathered a multidisciplinary and multiprofessional team including experts in haemoglobinopathies and experts in endocrinopathies, who have been flanked by experts with methodological and organizational expertise, in order to formulate recommendations based on the available scientific evidence integrated by clinical experience. The project followed the systematic approach for the production of clinical practice guidelines according to the methodology suggested by the National Center for Clinical Excellence, Quality and Safety of Care (CNEC).
New radioimaging techniques, exploiting the quantitative variables of imaging, permit to identify an hypothetical pathological tissue. We have applied this potential in a series of 72 adrenal incidentalomas (AIs) followed at our center, subdivided in functioning and non-functioning using laboratory findings. Each AI was studied in the preliminary non-contrast phase with a specific software (Mazda), surrounding a region of interest within each lesion.

Background: In older people, the prevalence frailty is inversely proportional to renal function, therefore it is supposed to be the highest in haemodialysis patients. However, frailty and its association with adverse outcomes have been scarcely investigated in this population. The aim of the present study was to characterize the frailty status and explore its association with hospitalization and mortality in a cohort of older patients undergoing chronic haemodialysis.

This is the reason why a panel of Italian neuroendocrine experts was charged with the task to provide indications for the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches that can be easily applied in different contexts.
