The authors have analyzed 5305 urine samples from patients with significant bacteriuria, examined in 1988-1992 at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology of the Pomeranian Academy of Medicine, performing analyses for the State Clinical Hospital No. 2 in Szczecin, and in the Bacteriology Laboratory of the Municipal Health Care Group in Szczecin. The results obtained demonstrate a dominance of Escherichia coli among patients of general medicine ambulatories and internal medicine departments (70%), while patients of the urologic department and urologic out-patient clinic were positive for this bacteria in only 30-40%.

Results of immunologic and histologic studies on rabbits immunized with sheep red blood cells (SRBC) showed dependence of the immunologic response (PFC, RFC) on the histologic structure of the spleen, particularly width of the sinusoidal vessels. Histologic changes in the spleen are a result of immunization and their intensity is related to the dose of antigen. The influence of dosage of antigen and histologic structure of the spleen on regulation of the immunologic response are discussed.

It was found out, that due to the application of autovaccine, the immunological indices displayed elevation or normalization as compared with the controls.

Immunological activation with reference to all the strains, was presented and it proved to be higher in the case of homologous strain. This finding proves the specific and non-specific stimulation of the immunological mechanisms by staphylococcal vaccine.
