Aim And Background: Neutrophil CD64 (nCD64) is evolving as a prognostic biomarker in sepsis. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate whether serial trend of nCD64, procalcitonin (PCT), and C-reactive protein (CRP) predict 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis/septic shock, as per Sepsis-3 criteria.
Materials And Methods: This prospective, observational single-center cohort study included 60 adult patients (age ≥18 years) with sepsis.

Unlabelled: Dengue is one of the commonest causes of undifferentiated acute febrile illness in India as well as South East Asia. Nearly two-fifths of the world population is at risk of infection, and nearly 96 million infections reported worldwide, it is a major cause of concern across the globe. The ISCCM leadership felt that there have been no new directives/guidelines except the MOH guidelines for the management of dengue fever since 2014.

Following vaccination with adenoviral vector-based ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, serious neurological adverse events have been reported. Here we report two cases who presented with quadriparesis following the adenoviral vector-based ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine. A 55-year-old male patient presented with quadriparesis after 8 days of the second dose of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccination.

Methods: At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) policy, HCWs were advised to take HCQ as prophylaxis after getting an electrocardiogram (ECG) while being posted to look after COVID-19 patients. A follow-up ECG was repeated for those who took HCQ.

Among the different prebiotics, non-digestible carbohydrates are molecules that selectively enrich a typical class of bacteria with probiotic potential. This review summarizes the current knowledge about the different aspects of prebiotics, such as its production, characterization and purification by various techniques, and its link to novel product development at an industrial scale for wide-scale use in diverse range of health management applications.

The objective of this study was to determine the mean arterial pressure (MAP) gradient between the femoral and radial artery sites in septic shock patients.
Method: This prospective study was carried out at a 20-bed ICU in a university hospital.

Design: Prospective observational study.
Setting: Mixed ICU of teaching hospital.
In the present study, the microbial community residing at different depths of the landfill was characterized to assess their roles in serving as a methane sink. Physico-chemical characterization revealed the characteristic signatures of anaerobic degradation of organic matter in the bottom soil (50-60 cm) and, active process of aerobic denitrification in the top soil (0-10 cm). This was also reflected from the higher abundance of bacterial domain in the top soil metagenome represented by dominant phyla Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria which are prime decomposers of organic matter in landfill soils.

Cultivation is imperative to validate findings emerging from cultivation-independent molecular data and exploit the isolated organisms for biotechnological purposes. Efforts have been made to boost the cultivability of microbes from environmental samples by use of a range of techniques and instrumentation.

In this review, the fermentative production of VFAs by both pure as well mixed microbial cultures is highlighted along with the strategies for enhancing the VFA production through innovations in existing approaches. Role of conventionally applied tools for the optimization of operational parameters such as pH, temperature, retention time, organic loading rate, and headspace pressure has been discussed.

Such a novel strategy often referred to as simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) has a tremendous potential in dealing with various wastewaters having low C : N content, considering that the process needs very little or no external carbon source and oxygen supply thus adding to its cost-effective and environmentally friendly nature. Though like other micro-organisms, heterotrophic nitrifiers and aerobic denitrifiers convert inorganic or organic nitrogen-containing substances into harmless dinitrogen gas in the wastewater, their ecophysiological role in the global nitrogen cycle is still not fully understood.

: The current pandemic of novel Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has created a significant shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) in many countries of the world, stressing medical services during this crisis. Along with addressing problems of demand and supply mismatch, there also a need to ensure the procurement of high-quality PPEs that provides both safety and comfort to users. The purpose of this article is to review existing standards and recommendations on the technical aspects of PPE.

Evidence suggests that the use of normal saline (NS) in large quantities is not without adverse effects. Balanced salt solutions (BSS) contain bicarbonate or one of its precursors that act as a buffer, and the electrolyte composition resembles that of plasma.
