Aim: To explore the effect of photobiomodulation on quadriceps strength and endurance torques in asymptomatic adults.

Methods: Twenty-eight asymptomatic adults were randomized to one of two interventions: photobiomodulation (n = 14) or sham (n = 14). Quadriceps strength was evaluated by maximum voluntary isometric contraction test (60°) and endurance by an elastic resistance in multiple-set knee extension/flexion repetitions using a traction dynamometer.

Objective: patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is one of the most frequent musculoskeletal disorders in the knee joint, affecting mainly physically active adolescents and young adults; its main symptom is pain. Physiotherapy has several therapeutic modalities aimed at pain relief, among which are photobiomodulation (PBM). Background: The 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases and Related Disorders (ICD-11) has been released. In order to test the clinical consistency and the clinical utility of the proposed guidelines the World Health Organization (WHO) has carried out the Ecological Implementation Field Studies in various countries. In this paper the results of the Italian field trials on the clinical utility of the ICD-11 diagnostic guideline concerning schizophrenia and related disorders will be presented.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is about to publish the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases and Related Disorders (ICD-11). A pre-final version has been disseminated in 2018, in order to allow the 194 member States to provide suggestions for amendments and to prepare shared strategies for the implementation of the diagnostic system. Furthermore, the Ecological Implementation Field Studies (EIFS) have been conducted in various countries, with the aim to assess the reliability and clinical utility of the ICD-11 diagnostic guidelines.

The decision to use coercive measures (restraint, seclusion and forced medication) in psychiatric practice is controversial in mental health care. The EUNOMIA study was funded by the European Commission and carried out in 11 countries in order to develop European recommendations for good clinical practice on the use of coercive measures. The aim of the study is to identify sociodemographic and clinical predictors of the levels of perceived coercion in a sample of Italian patients with severe mental disorders at hospital admission.

Unlabelled: Patients with severe mental disorders die on average 20 years prior to the general population. This mortality gap is mainly due to the higher prevalence of physical diseases and the adoption of unhealthy lifestyle behaviors.The LIFESTYLE trial aims to evaluate the efficacy of a new psychosocial group intervention (including psychoeducational, motivational, and problem-solving techniques) focused on healthy lifestyle behavior compared to a brief educational group intervention in a community sample of patients with severe mental disorders.

Background: Psychoeducational family intervention (PFI) has been proven to be effective in improving the levels of family burden and patients' personal functioning in schizophrenia and bipolar disorders (BDs). Less is known about the impact of PFI on relatives' coping strategies in BD.

Methods: A multicenter, controlled, outpatient trial funded by the Italian Ministry of Health and coordinated by the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli" has been conducted in patients with bipolar I disorder (BD-I) and their key relatives consecutively recruited in 11 randomly selected Italian community mental health centers.

People with severe mental disorders have a mortality rate that is more than two times higher than the general population, with at least a decade of potential years of life lost. People with mental disorders have a significantly higher risk of obesity, hyperglycemia and metabolic syndrome, which are related to modifiable risk factors, such as heavy smoking, poor physical activities, and inappropriate unhealthy diet, which can be improved through lifestyle changes. Areas covered: Lifestyle behaviours are amenable to change through the adoption of specific psychosocial interventions, and several approaches have been promoted.
