Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the relationship between visual impairment and suprasellar extension in pituitary macroadenomas using preoperative MRI to identify patients at risk of preoperative visual deficits.
  • Analyzed data from 97 patients revealed that factors like the duration of visual symptoms, specific measurements of suprasellar extension, and the anatomical distortion of the optic nerves were significant predictors of visual impairment.
  • The findings indicate that understanding tumor shape and optic pathway changes can help predict visual impairment risks, which may inform better surgical planning and timing for affected patients.

Purpose: To assess the image quality of 80-kVp craniocervical CT angiography (CCCTA) protocol combined with adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction-V (ASIR-V) and low-dose contrast medium (CM).

Methods: A total of 119 patients were randomly divided into three groups. For group A, 120-kVp protocol was followed with 60 ml CM and filtered back projection; for group B, 80-kVp protocol with 60 ml CM and ASIR-V; and for group C, 80-kVp protocol with 45 ml CM and ASIR-V.

Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the differentiation of abscess and necrotic tumors, using susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) and apparent diffusion coefficients (ADC) either separated or combined.

Methods: Imaging was performed on 26 patients with pyogenic brain abscesses, 31 patients with rim-enhancing glioblastomas, and 21 patients with rim-enhancing metastases. The degree of intralesional susceptibility signal (ILSS) was independently assessed by three observers.

Rationale And Objectives: To evaluate image quality and radiation exposure when using the adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction-V (ASIR-V) algorithm for reconstructing craniocervical computed tomographic angiography images acquired at 100 kVp.

Materials And Methods: We randomly divided 121 patients into three groups: group A (conventional protocol), 120 kVp with filtered back projection; group B, 120 kVp with 50% ASIR-V; and group C, 100 kVp with 50% ASIR-V. All patients underwent scans in a 256-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner.

Sinonasal organized hematoma (SNOH) is rarely encountered in clinical practice. The disease demonstrates a high tendency for occurrence in East Asian individuals, and in the majority of cases, is located in the maxillary sinus. The current report presents the case of an 81-year-old female who developed a space-occupying lesion, which masqueraded as a skull base malignancy, following surgery for the treatment of isolated sphenoid sinus aspergilloma.

Objectives: To investigate the feasibility of using susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) to discriminate abscesses and necrotic tumours.

Methods: Twenty-one patients with pyogenic abscesses, 21 patients with rim-enhancing glioblastomas and 23 patients with rim-enhancing metastases underwent SWI. Intralesional susceptibility signal (ILSS) was analyzed employing both qualitative (QL) and semi-quantitative (SQ) methods.

Purpose: To report the technical success and long-term clinical outcomes of immature arteriovenous fistula (AVF) after percutaneous angioplasty (PTA).

Materials And Methods: Patients with 58 immature AVF underwent PTA treatment in our institute during the past 9 years. Based on pretreatment ultrasound findings, the immature AVFs were categorized as stenosed, thrombosed, and obliterated type.

Purpose: Single-voxel spectroscopy (SVS) has been the gold standard technique to diagnose the pyogenic abssess. Two-dimensional magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) is able to provide spatial distribution of metabolic concentration, and is potentially more suitable for differential diagnosis between abscess and necrotic tumors. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the equivalence of MRSI and SVS in the detection of the metabolites in pyogenic brain abscesses.

Purpose: To demonstrate the presence of a multilayer appearance of the capsule on contrast-enhanced (CE) susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) in patients with pyogenic brain abscesses. Possible origins for the appearance and effects of postprocessing settings are discussed.

Materials And Methods: Fourteen patients with pyogenic brain abscesses underwent post gadolinium-enhanced SWI at 1.

The infiltrative nature of lesions is a significant feature of malignant breast lesion on ultrasound image. Characterizing the infiltrative nature of lesions with computationally inexpensive and highly efficacious features is crucial for the realization of a computer-aided diagnosis system. In this study, the infiltrative nature is regarded as an energy that produces irregularly and considerably local variances in a 1-D signal.

Background: For a dislodged port catheter, percutaneous retrieval by using a loop snare or a basket is the standard technique, with high success. However, once a loop snare fails, the likelihood of success with other tools is considered low.

Purpose: To report our experience of percutaneous retrieval of dislodged port catheters and to emphasize the usefulness of grasping forceps.

A malignant transformation or a tumor rupture is a rare complication of ovarian mature cystic teratoma (MCT). A tumor rupture in a malignant-transformed MCT has never been reported in the literature. We present the CT images of a 39-year-old woman showing a large, predominantly cystic mass in the lower abdomen, with fat-fluid-level ascites.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to review our experience with fluoroscopically guided retrograde exchange of ureteral stents in women.

Materials And Methods: During a 48-month period, 28 women (age range, 38-76 years) were referred to our department for retrograde exchange of a ureteral stent. The causes of urinary obstruction were tumor compression in 26 patients and benign fibrotic stricture in two patients.
