Dispatcher- assisted CPR (DA-CPR) has led to increased survival in OHCA. Recently, additional verbal motivation has shown positive effects on CPR quality.

In the absence of external forcing, all trajectories on the phase plane of the van der Pol oscillator tend to a closed, periodic trajectory-the limit cycle-after infinite time. Here, we drive the van der Pol oscillator with an external time-dependent force to reach the limit cycle in a given finite time. Specifically, we are interested in minimizing the non-conservative contribution to the work when driving the system from a given initial point on the phase plane to any final point belonging to the limit cycle.

Health insurance and clinical outcomes in patients with chronic heart failure in Latin America: an observational study of the Colombian Heart Failure Registry (RECOLFACA).

The effect of the health insurance type on the prognosis of heart failure (HF) patients in Colombia and Latin America is poorly known. We aimed to analyze the characteristics of HF patients that participated in the Colombian Heart Failure Registry (RECOLFACA) as stated by their health insurance type and their relationship with the immediate prognosis of these patients. Patients with HF diagnosis were included in the RECOLFACA registry between 2017-2019.

Medical and cardio-vascular emergency department visits during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020: is there a collateral damage? A retrospective routine data analysis.

Background: In this retrospective routine data analysis, we investigate the number of emergency department (ED) consultations during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 in Germany compared to the previous year with a special focus on numbers of myocardial infarction and acute heart failure.

Methods: Aggregated case numbers for the two consecutive years 2019 and 2020 were obtained from 24 university hospitals and 9 non-university hospitals in Germany and assessed by age, gender, triage scores, disposition, care level and by ICD-10 codes including the tracer diagnoses myocardial infarction (I21) and heart failure (I50).

Results: A total of 2,216,627 ED consultations were analyzed, of which 1,178,470 occurred in 2019 and 1,038,157 in 2020.

Pairing statistics and melting of random DNA oligomers: Finding your partner in superdiverse environments.

Understanding of the pairing statistics in solutions populated by a large number of distinct solute species with mutual interactions is a challenging topic, relevant in modeling the complexity of real biological systems. Here we describe, both experimentally and theoretically, the formation of duplexes in a solution of random-sequence DNA (rsDNA) oligomers of length L = 8, 12, 20 nucleotides. rsDNA solutions are formed by 4L distinct molecular species, leading to a variety of pairing motifs that depend on sequence complementarity and range from strongly bound, fully paired defectless helices to weakly interacting mismatched duplexes.

Needles in Haystacks: Understanding the Success of Selective Pairing of Nucleic Acids.

The effectiveness of several biological and biotechnological processes relies on the remarkably selective pairing of nucleic acids in contexts of molecular complexity. Relevant examples are the on-target binding of primers in genomic PCR and the regulatory efficacy of microRNA via binding on the transcriptome. Here, we propose a statistical framework that enables us to describe and understand such selectivity by means of a model that is extremely cheap from a computational point of view.

Dispatcher Self-assessment and Attitude Toward Video Assistance as a New Tool in Simulated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

Introduction: Video-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (V-CPR) describes an advanced telephone-assisted CPR (T-CPR), in which emergency medical service (EMS) dispatchers view a live video steam of the resuscitation. Dispatchers ' general attitudes toward and self-assessment in V-CPR have not been previously investigated.

Material And Methods: We conducted this quantitative analysis along with a pilot study on V-CPR.

Taming the Time Evolution in Overdamped Systems: Shortcuts Elaborated from Fast-Forward and Time-Reversed Protocols.

Using a reverse-engineering approach on the time-distorted solution in a reference potential, we work out the external driving potential to be applied to a Brownian system in order to slow or accelerate the dynamics, or even to invert the arrow of time. By welding a direct and time-reversed evolution toward a well chosen common intermediate state, we analytically derive a smooth protocol to connect two arbitrary states in an arbitrarily short amount of time. Not only does the reverse-engineering approach proposed in this Letter contain the current-rather limited-catalog of explicit protocols, but it also provides a systematic strategy to build the connection between arbitrary states with a physically admissible driving.

There is little data on the experience of managing pediatric Intestinal Failure (IF) in Latin America. This study aimed to identify and describe the current organization and practices of the IF teams in Latin America and the Caribbean. An online survey was sent to inquire about the existence of IF teams that managed children on home parenteral nutrition (HPN).

Impact of video quality when evaluating video-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation: a randomized, controlled simulation trial.

Background: Although not routinely established during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), video-assisted CPR has been described as beneficial in the communication with emergency medical service (EMS) authorities in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest scenarios. Since the influence of video quality has not been investigated systematically and due to variation of quality of a live-stream video during video-assisted CPR, we investigated the influence of different video quality levels during the evaluation of CPR performance in video sequences.

Methods: Seven video sequences of CPR performance were recorded in high quality and artificially reduced to medium and low quality afterwards.

Methods: For this randomized, controlled simulation trial, seven video sequences of cardiopulmonary resuscitation performance were recorded from three different camera positions: side, foot and head position.

Personalized Immunotherapy Treatment Strategies for a Dynamical System of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia.

This paper is devoted to exploring personalized applications of cellular immunotherapy as a control strategy for the treatment of chronic myelogenous leukemia described by a dynamical system of three first-order ordinary differential equations. The latter was achieved by applying both the Localization of Compact Invariant Sets and Lyapunov's stability theory. Combination of these two approaches allows us to establish sufficient conditions on the immunotherapy treatment parameter to ensure the complete eradication of the leukemia cancer cells.
